Can anybody tell me where I can create my own website for free? I don't mean one where there will be a bunch of stuff before the site name, but a free way of having something like SMBHQ. Jay, can you tell me what you use?

I looked at Geocities, they don't let you have your own name, they just make it a part of Geocities, not your own website.

I'd say the closest type you're looking for is this thing where you put EG: my_name.cjb.net
I just freewebs.com , it might have it's name before mine, but it's great to use.

lemme tell you something, sonny. The crap you are talking about costs money nothing you can do about it. But, here is a solution...

1) Never use ghey Geocities. Only incredibly stupid people who live off of fetish porn do that. What you need is something like http://tripod.lycos.co.uk or www.tripod.com. Although I recomend the uk, but the problem with it is their javascript banner, and it auto refreshed the page when you are using the step 2 method, but if you know php, and wanna set up a quality forum or whatever, then use that. tripod.com does cgi stuff, but cgi is damn confusing and hard to work on tripod.com for chmodding is not enabled. if you don't want to do HTML or PHP or CGI, they also have a great WYSIWYG feature. (What You See Is What You Get)

2) After you got all that situated, here is where the short URL comes in. go to www.dot.tk and register there. What this is, is a forwarding domain name service. so you just think of a name, like www.yoursite.tk (Of course, replace mysite with the name you desire) and then it will ask you to type in the domain you would like to forward, like http://yoursite.tripod.com or http://members.lycos.co.uk/yoursite/

and, if you are interested in learning html, go here: www.htmlgoodies.com it is obviously the best site to learn HTML, and incredibly easy to comprehend what the guy says!
