Talking Mushroommarioman Says Hi

Hi. I joined VGF in Summer 2000 and posted up through Summer 2004. In that time, I posted about 10,000 comments. I left because I got busy with school, but I just wanted to drop by and say hi. I guess I'd like to say and ask few things.

1.) I'm personally doing just fine. Busy, but everything is cool on my side.

2.) Where are Lurch (Nik Arvites), Tritoch (Jared Black), Weapon, and Shane Sacobie?

3.) Are the VGF Forums still busy or has the activity died down? It seems like the posting amount has slowed down somewhat.

4.) Can somebody give me a recap of anything important that's happened with VGF in the past seven years?

Again, just wanted to say hi, and see what's going on.

- Mushroommarioman (MMM)

2. Gone. Shane is still here, technically, but only as a news posting cyborg. His human form rarely posts.

3. No. VGF has died down a LOT. There's still enough activity, but nowhere near what you're used to.

4. Yeah, Activity died down, and we've gone through one or two different generations of members.

But welcome back anyway. I'm DarkZero, resident spriter, composer, and overall user of neglected features. I joined about 3.5 years ago, and I was originally what you would call a textbook n00b, but I've straightened out since then, and now I'm a valued member like anyone else.

Wow, it's the triple-emm.

2. Tritoch and Weap both left ages ago. Last I heard, Weap had graduated, and Tritoch was expecting a second child with his wife. Lurch is sometimes around still, and Shane's running things behind the scenes.

3. All traditional style internet forums have seen a sharp decline over the past few years, for various reasons. Blogs, Facebook/Twitter, news sites, image boards, etc. We're in the process of making VGF into a pretty stand-out community again, so if you want to contribute, stop by the Main forum and give us some input.

4. Everything. Where should I start?

Yo, MMM, welcome back. This is A.I. aka TOM NOOK EATS BEES if you recall. It's been quite a while since you dropped off the forum, bud. Good to hear from you again.

The biggest change you'll note is probably that this is a VB board instead of UBB, we changed formats a handful of years back. Generally, the current crew is a bit more laid-back. We had a lot of members get their knickers in a bunch over the years, they've fallen out, and the ones that are left are generally the moderate sort.

Stick around awhile, let us know what you're up to.

Lurch. There's a name I haven't heard in a while! Does he really still lurk?

Let me first say hi to: Killer Axe, Jere, Zaden, Guildfian, Antisocial, Wrait to the Finish, Valigarmander, Saria, and Dark Zero. I do remember you Saria and Wrait. Glad to be back. I'm not planning on posting a lot (i'll post some), but I'd though I''d stop by and see what's up with the VGF crew.

It's been almost 7 years since I last posted here, so I'm definitely out of the loop.

I do think I'd be interested in writing an article for VGF. I got a econ degree, so maybe something on the competitive environment in the gaming industry. I used to be moderator of the System Wars Forum (which seems to be gone), so I'm interested in that aspect of gaming. I'll post something in the main forum in the next few days, indicating what I'd like to write on.

Back when I joined in Summer 2000, there was a huge amount of activity. A lot of the popular forums were getting hundreds of posts a day (yeah, hundreds!). Nintendoland was super active especially and the main site was being updated a lot by Tritoch and other. Things got less busy over the years, but I remember a decent number of people being here up through mid 2004 (when I left). It's pretty shocking to not see Shane anymore, as the guy used to post a lot. I remember when I used to argue with him about Nintendo v.s. Sony v.s. Microsoft, and when I argued Lurch on politics. Back then, I'd say Shane, Lurch, Tritoch, Weapon, Pzirm, Ghost Dog, Sig/Marty, Metal Mario (Nintendo forum mod), and myself were some of the most prolific posters here. If you don't know all these names, it's because some of them go back to 1999.

I myself was moderator of the System Wars Forum, which seems to have disappeared. Lurch was moderator of the forum too. Shane, Tritoch, Shou Amabane, Ghost Dog, Mayhem Man, and Sig came by there a lot, so I remember them well. I remember at one point, VGF was busy enough that Shane created netgenforums - a spin off of VGF. That lasted for about a couple years.

Here are some names I remember from my time here: Metal Mario, Pzirm, Shou Amabane, Sig, Mxpx, WingZero, TanookiMrShady, Kazooie64, Bolt Dragoon, Mayhem Man, Coolsurferjt, SuperLugi, Link47, Golem, Kirby King, Mario Star 3, JaytheFF. A lot of these people posted a lot around 2000/2001, but continued going up through 2004.

OHMYGOSH, MMM!!!! It's soooo awesome to see you once more. *gives you marshmallows* Seeing you brings about a huge waft of nostalgia and memories of an era long gone. Just wow!!! Maybe you remember me...?

Those names... so many memories. I was so much quieter back then and kept only to a couple of forums. But times change... as do people.

That'd be fantastic to have an article by you and that reminds me that I have some things to do... lotsa codes still!!

And congrats on your econ degree!!! That's really wonderful!!

What's up! Good to see you and thanks for your ethusiastic greeting. I do remember you from back in the day and it's nice to see someone from that far back. You used to go by HotD, I think. I think we posted in different forums, but I recall you pretty well. It definitely does bring nostalgia for me to be here and look around this place. I remember when I was in HS and junior high, I'd post here a lot, as I was a big time gamer. I'm more busy now and less into gaming, but lots of good memories. I was looking through some of the forums, and it's amazing the decline in the activity level. Hopefully things pick back up and some of the older members come back.

So, did Shane leave the forum to you guys to manage and write articles for? It seems like there a few people who are running things. Also, is the user YNotShane the same person as Shane Sacobie? Just wondering.

As for the article, how long would you like?

Shane doesn't really post much anymore but he's still around, watching from the shadows.

I... barely remember you. I think we stuck to pretty different forums.
Welcome back, all the same.

And hello to you to sir and welcome back, i don't know what it is with VGF but something here just makes old members stick their heads in and say hello from time to time.

I remeber Nintendoland it's been under a guy named Angry Sun now for a while, since May 2008 actually if he haven't decided to quit.

We don't have enough angry loyal people to support a System Wars forum anymore.

Would I have been 'Galatea' back then? I'm not sure.

Hahaha, I still go by "HotD".

I can remember when you used to post a whole heap more. And like you, I'm less into gaming although if I had more time, I'd like to think I'd still play a lot more. You know, MMM, if I had enough time, I'd be content to spend a couple of hours reading through my discs where I have saved a bunch of stuff from VGF from long ago to just remember... and wallow in the nostalgia... (Assuming they'd still be readable...)

As SD explained, the internet is full of places to leave an opinion/thought/your life these days and many forums have suffered such decline.

Not quite. Shane drops by regularly but in a different capacity these days with little posting except his bot posts. In some ways, I guess SD and I and the various SuperMods do manage things, though. Funny how that worked out!!! *grins*

I'll leave the length of the article up to you!! Whatever your time and enthusiasm permits... and thanks!!
