Wii System Menu 4.2

System Menu 4.2 - WiiBrew

Came out today. If you want to keep your Homebrew Channel, don't update or it'll get rid of it.

Changes:
* Deletes most homebrew.
* Now uses IOS70. (No Preloader due to that)
* Wii Shop Channel updated. Use WiiSCU to update the shop channel.
* Most of the IOS's have been updated or stubbed.
* Updates your boot2 to boot2v4 (what LU64+'s have). (That means no downgrading of any IOS, and due to that, you can't revert back to your old System Menu. So BootMii as boot2 installed is removed.)

I'm probably on some ancient firmware version due to never using the Wii. Considering there's no new games I have in mind, it may as well stay that way for now.

It may not be good for YOU, but...

It removes the Homebrew Channel

Actually, it does something else...

Wii Update 4.2 Is Killing Wiis Dead - Wii - Kotaku

...Eesh. I'm not touching it. HOMEBREW is less likely to brick based on what they're saying.

Well, you see, either it updates without a problem, or if there is a problem, it bricks your Wii.

Previous updates could be dealt with via recovery disc because they weren't modifying the boot thing.

Me, I'll wait until I get a game which requires it--then the disc itself will have the update and, by then, it should just download without any danger of glitching. Well, a lower danger.

I'm a bit concerned, actually, considering that my Wii was modded, but I ended up taking out the chip. I guess I'll update when I have to and hope for the best.

Not that I've had online available for it for sometime, but if Nintendo didn't want us to homebrew(which is understandable), maybe it should step up the goddamn VC and release better games a bit faster so people wouldn't be (for the most part) forced to get Homebrew.

You know what happens when you don't listen to your customers? They desert you. The smart ones do, anyway.

Or they can just remove VC.

It'll apparantly make people happier.
