Nvidia chip to power new DS and PSP

Nvidia Chip To Power New Nintendo DS - Nintendo DS - Kotaku

Quote:
Graphics chip maker Nvidia has apparently been awarded a contract to provide its mobile-centric system-on-a-chip, Tegra, to a new Nintendo DS, which will be announced in late 2010.

Insiders tell IT news outlet BSN that a single chip Tegra will supposedly power the new DS; the Tegra was developed for use in mobile devices like Microsoft's Zune HD as well as smart phones.

If true, this could explain why Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang declared that the Tegra account will account for half of Nvidia's revenues in the next couple of years. It would also be the first time Nintendo and Nvidia have partnered.

We are following up with Nintendo and will update if the company comments.
You can also read about the new PSP here, although it's in Japanese:
ソニーの「PSP2」は2010年に登*か、パ ソコン向けグラフィックボードに近 処理能力を実現 - GIGAZINE

It looks like both the new DS and the new PSP will both be powered by the Nvidia chip. It'll probably be a while before we hear more information about this.

Another new DS next year? Didn't DSi just come out a few months ago?

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

This will probably be a new system entirely. Kinda like how a year after the GBC came out they anounced the GBA.
Remember, the system is probably only going to be anounced next year, Usually it's about a year after that the system actually comes out, so we probably won't be seeing it until late 2011 - early 2012.

In your face, DSi.

I knew the DSi was just gonna be a stopgap. I mean, the DS is how old? It's a good system, but it's just before the crust of the truly online-enabled portables.

It would be nice, but I think they're going to be release GB games for DSi Ware. They'd be stealing money from themselves if they allowed backward compatibility.

^ GBDS: Game Boy Dual-Screen sounds good to me.

If this is indeed a new system, I wonder how much longer they will support the original DS, and if the graphics will be at least PSP-quality. Seems they're always behind the graphical curve these days by an entire generation. I think the Wii has what, XB-quality graphics?

Wii has about 2-3 times the muscle of the X-box, as far as I'm aware. Just not 20 times as much like the insanely undercut PS3.

I mean the appearance of the graphics. I'm sure the rest of the specs are for the most part better, but graphically it appears to be on par with XB. But maybe it's just me.

I'll take cartoony look to real is brown anyday thank you. As much fun as I had playing Gears of War co-op with my friend I tend to get lost because the overall lack of light in that game.

Well, it works for some games. Besides, style and graphics can coincide. I don't see why people think good graphics must equate to muddy graphics or photo-realism.

Because most "Realistic" games (At least the one's I've come across.) tend to focus almost entirly on shades of brown, gray, black, dark blues, muted greens, and red if you're lucky. Add to that alot of these games also tend to either stuff you in some kind of cave, corridoor, wasteland, aincent ruins, or crumbling city and it can get rather tiresome affter a while.

Then you have to consider the TV the gamer is using, I had to put off Wind Waker for a while because my old TV was rather bad about this a cloudy night at sea or worse yet the final dungion were so dark that all I could make out was Link, King of Red Lions, and Shadow Ganonn's energy attacks. Once I got a better TV I finished the game without much trouble though I wish that Zelda was alittle more aware of when she shot her arrows but that's neither here nor there.

I agree. It is laziness, I believe.
