Miyamoto Wishes Star Fox Were More Popular

Miyamoto Wishes Star Fox Were More Popular

Quote:
With the exception of Fox's periodic appearances in Super Smash Bros., Star Fox has flown under the radar over the last few years. Nevertheless, Shigeru Miyamoto considers himself a fan of the series, and wishes you were too.

"I'm a big fan of the Star Fox games," he told MTV Multiplayer.

"Every time we make a Star Fox game I'm hoping people will enjoy it as much as I do. Of course the goal every time is to try and make it more and more fun but, at least in Japan, the people that purchase the Star Fox games has decreased over the years.

"But we still try to make them more fun and hopefully people will see the appeal in those games."

Star Fox Command is the franchise's most recent title, having been released for the Nintendo DS in 2006. Fans have made everything from questionable fanart to a full-fledged Freespace 2 mod to fill the void. Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert, who worked on both the SNES and the Nintendo DS game, said that his studio is unlikely to make a new Star Fox anytime soon.

Still, Miyamoto's comments seem to suggest that the door is open for a new Star Fox game. Who knows, with so many retro revivals hitting WiiWare, the time may be ripe for a new take on Star Fox 64.
Try one of the older formulas, the ones that were a hit. I'd love to see a new Star Fox game in the same key as Star Fox or Star Fox 64.

Yeah, it's not that people don't like Star Fox. It's that all of the recent games have been developed by studios outside of Nintendo, or just downright bland in conception.

That's funny, I tend to wish the recent Star Fox games were better.

Yeah, Star Fox has actually been one of the franchises I've wanted to see more of on the console, but... apparently normal Star Fox games are too hard to make or something.

Honestly, Assault wasn't terrible to me. It seemed more like people couldn't stand Fox not being in an Arwing, and that the controls were a little stiff (Especially while turning)

Anyway, I find it hilarious that Miyamoto would be a fan of a series he can just make a game for.

Assault also was rather short and linear, and the off-Arwing modes were kinda shoddy.

Also, it would seem Aparoids are a poor substitution for Andross.

I really liked Starfox 64. I used to play that every day for months on end. There's just something really satisfying about charing up a laser, firing it, and hitting five enemies for a +5 HIT. The mythos was something that I could easily wrap my teenaged head around too; it's just like sci-fi, except with animals, lol.

Yeah, I've always seen Star Fox as Nintendo's more interesting take on Star Wars.

I hated Assualt, the game itself was way too easy, I hated the controlls and it just made me....well...sick of not having my arwing. I was a big big fan of the starfox for SNES and the N64, so I stupidly purchased it for my Game Cube....bah I was dissapointed.

It's probably because I played Assault before 64, and my original Starfox experiance can be summed up as the "Tazy gets smashed by the same row of falling buildings for 10 minutes while no music plays"

Also, my experiance with Star Fox 64 is ruined by Star Wolf and thier always behind you AI.

Still, "no arwing lol" is not a really good reason to hate the game because at least half of the game is still placed in an Arwing.

assualt was ok, but it was too short. i had no problem with being out of the arwing, but there weren't enough "normal" levels, in favor of all-range stuff.

also the multiplayer was so close to being awesome, but it wasn't.

I liked Assault ok enough, Adventures sucked for the reason that it was some random game with the tag "Star Fox" slapped on.

I'm trying to get back into Starfox Adventures for a second play-through. Dunno if I'll manage it, but then, I didn't think I'd be able to get back into The Wind Waker either, and I'm at least two-thirds of the way through that game.

I get that Starfox Adventures wasn't popular with a lot of people, and I kind of get why, but it seems to me that the franchise's survival would depend upon its ability to become something more than a flight sim. I mean, I've never been a follower of Starfox, so I don't know much about it, but it seems to me that the two Starfox games that everybody actually likes (the SNES and N64 games) are more or less the same thing.

I thought as a game, Adventures was decent.

As a Star Fox game, it was pretty "wtf".

Star Wars is less interesting than a Dateline special on assisted suicide.
