Nintendo Planning To Offer WiiWare Demos

Nintendo Planning To Offer WiiWare Demos

Quote:
There are a whole lot of WiiWare games out there, and quite a large number of them are downright awful. If you're worried the game you're looking at is a piece of junk rather than a gem though, Nintendo will soon be here to help you out.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata told investors that WiiWare demos are on the way at a Q&A session during a recent earnings briefing (via IGN). They'll begin with a test program that will cover a few titles, which will launch later thi month.

According to Iwata, the market for WiiWare and DSiWare games is currently small, with buyers only visiting the Wii Shopping Channel when they know what they want to buy. Nintendo hopes that demos will prompt more people to spend their time browsing titles.

Nintendo hasn't officially announced the demo program, so there are no real specifics yet. But it shouldn't be along before you can find out just how good a given WiiWare game is before you buy it.

About time--everyone else platform-wise has beat them to the punch by several months on this, IIRC.

Demos Available on This Week's Nintendo Downloads

Quote:
We reported recently on Nintendo's plan to offer demos, and this week the first of them are surfacing on the system. WiiWare this week features Pokemon Rumble for 1,500 Wii Points ($15). It's a battle arena game, in which the player collects new Pokemon along the path of the gauntlet, and it features support for up to 4 players. Nintendo is also offering an extra Pokemon for Club Nintendo members. A free demo is available, along with demos of some older titles: Bit. Trip Beat, FFCC: My Life as a Darklord, NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits, and World of Goo.

For Virtual Console, we have Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures from the Super NES, for 800 points ($8). Joining it is the TurboGrafx16 Street Fighter II: Championship Edition for 700 points ($7). Finally, DSiWare brings Art Style: Digidrive for 500 DSi Points ($5), a puzzle game in which players guide cars. We also have Arcade Bowling and Robot Rescue for 200 points ($2) each, a bowling and puzzle title, respectively.
