Nintendo Needs To Be Conscious Of Pricing And Innovation, EA says

Quote:
Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has been known to express frustration with the Nintendo Wii from time to time. However, at the annual Global Media and Communications Conference in New York, he called it a "compelling platform," though he thinks Nintendo needs to be conscious of pricing and innovation going forward.

"One, it's a very compelling platform. Two, third-parties can do a lot better on the platform with the right support from Nintendo," Riccitiello said (via Gamasutra).

"They've always been first-party-centric, and they're learning how to be third-party supportive."

Riccitiello said that he believes the first console that reaches $149.99 will inherit the PlayStation 2's market share. He cautioned that Nintendo needs to be aware of that, along with other issues.

"The Wii is not gone. But if they maintain $199 and don't innovate, they're going to have a hard time competing with what's already been announced from Microsoft and Sony," he said.

Riccitiello criticized the Wii "for being a little weaker" than EA had anticipated last month. He said that Nintendo needs "more beats in the year than they get out of a first-party slate - to be able to have the Wii software platform perform as well as they would like."
I'd be surprised if the Wii wasn't the first this gen to hit $149.

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that EA is telling someone else to be innovative?

EA are getting better, actually. *Points at Dead Space, for example*
