Unhappy Metal Gear (NES)

I am actually quite shocked, and let down. I always wanted to play this game, and I heard good things about it. But I found it to suck as if it were payed, and payed well.

What's everybody's thoughts on the game? And is the sequel any better?

The actual sequel, Metal Gear 2, is hilariously bad.

And yeah, the first Metal Gear sucks ass. Anyone who plays it and says it's great probably only likes it because they're trying really hard to.

There's a theory that the 3rd game is called Metal Gear Solid because it's the first one to be a solidly good game.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Yeah, the first Metal Gear is really hard and unfair... as The Bureau said, I think the people who like it probably played it as kids and nostalgia fills the gaps. I mean, this is my opinion - I didn't play MG as a kid and discovered it after playing MGS on the PS1 and I just couldn't get through it... way to hard and frustrating...

I was afraid I'd be burned at the stake for trashing this "classic."

It was a great concept as proven by later installments, which I think is the reason it ever did well. People were drawn to it. Obviously the system limitations wouldn't allow for what Kojima wanted though.

The system could handle decent gameplay. The company failed to create that gameplay. They also failed English 101.

I can't say I've played Metal Gear or Snake's Revenge for NES, but there is a port of the original (canon) MSX games on the special edition of MGS3. I rented it and played a bit of the first one, and it wasn't bad. I had to quit playing because NSMBWii came out.

who actually thinks metal gear is a classic though.

metal gear series has no classics until solid.

that said, the msx metal gears are good barring the occasional bull**** puzzle.
