I think it would be awesome to have a 4th installment of the SSB series. If we could only have 10 characters added to the game, who would you want. List the characters you would want.

Nintendo's going to have to make some serious changes to make newer releases of these games interesting.

A sub-space type story mode (not a part 2) with maybe more of an explanation of wtf is going on

A coherent and creative single-player would be a nice addition.

For multi, character balance and a new feature that's not gimmicky, perhaps a counter system. Something like tag matches would also be nice.

Online needs to be faster, smoother, with a lobby and leader boards, with lots of modes and tournaments.

Overall, the series needs to dust itself off a bit.

Mega Man, Little Mac, Black Shadow, Starfy, and a Wario Land-based Wario would be nice.

For ATs, I'd like to see Bald Bull, Miles "Tails" Prower (or Dr. Eggman), Ridley, Revolver Ocelot, the Elite Beat Agents, and Proto Man.

Well, if they really wanted Sonic to have a place in the game, they should give him some of his main cast like Mario has. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Metal Sonic and Robotnik.

I've partly thought out a little character creation system for the next one that would be really cool. It would be highly unlikely for Nintendo to put that in the next game, though.

^ That reminds me of my idea; they could infuse optional stats and equippable items for characters customization (rather than just straight out make your own character).

Link would work perfectly as he has various swords and shields he can swap out. Stats would be kind of fun too.

Oh, and maybe Miis would be a good substitute for character-creation mode. We could tweak little details about their style and moves, weight and whatnot.

Everyone make sure your characters are nintendo. Sonic and Metal Gear characters are fine, but all others should be directly from nintendo. Oh and Waluigi needs to b in da game. We don't need any other Super Mario characters but him.

And yes mii's should be somewhere in the game sense they are considered nintendo characters.

Nah. One playable Sega character is fine. One Sega AT is fine, too. We don't wanna have them overshadow (no pun intended) the Nintendo cast.

...Why should they be "directly" from Nintendo? I suppose I can understand some kind of guideline like, they need to have had a game on a Nintendo system before or something though.

Ditto, you can add new characters forever, but without some way to make the fighting system more interesting, it comes down to a couple matches with items on high on wacky courses followed by shaking one's head at tourney-maniacs.

Well if the characters have a game on nintendo then ok. And one thing they should keep in the story mode is the way they introduce they characters. I like the way they introduce the character to the story by pausing and showing there name on there first appearance. I noticed they did not do that with Mr.Game and Watch.

if you want us to follow those rules then you should have made the thread title be: "Ideas for the next SSB, but no third-party characters except Sonic and Metal Gear characters."
