E3 2010: Nintendo Announces Kirby's Epic Yarn

Nintendo unveiled Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Wii at the company's E3 press conference this morning. This first new Kirby game in years features an all-new, highly-stylized look along with new gameplay mechanics.

The world in Kirby's Epic Yarn looks as if it's stitched together from scraps of fabric, while Kirby himself appears to be made of a curled-up strip of pink yarn. And there are gameplay connotations to the new look, too; the trailer showed Kirby using a whip-like ability to grab sections of the environment and fold them over -- shortening platforming gaps in the process.

Nintendo also showed footage of Kirby using some of his more familiar abilities, like transforming into a UFO and zapping enemies. There were also several boss battles on display, including a phoenix, a dragon, and a tank with a giant boxing glove.

Look for more coverage of Kirby's Epic Yarn at E3.

At first I was kind of wondering why they would take the game in this direction, but I believe I see it now.
