Thumbs down Wii's Virtual Console Slipping?

I don't really keep up on the releases on Nintendo's systems much anymore, but I didn't realize just how bad things were getting. Could Nintendo really abandon what appears to be easy money? How hard can it be to release at least one title from their giant list of systems available?

What do you guys think about this? Personally, I think Nintendo is complacent, and oddly unbusiness like quite often, especially with news like this. I'm waiting for games I really want and I don't think they'll deliver...

*shrug*

It takes time to acquire the rights and port the games to the VC. And there's only so many games.

Thumbs down

What, are you guys serious? Every first-party release for every Nintendo system should be available by now since acquiring the rights to those is virtually non-existant, right? And porting a game shouldn't be this difficult.

They have plenty of games yet to be released and the Wii only has to about 2013 before Wii 2 according to analysts. Get on the ball, srsly.

But geez, looks like Nintendo's fans are as complacent as Nintendo themselves.

If this is such a travesty, you can create a petition to have Satoru Iwata's fingers cut off.

Less a travesty and more a betrayal. It's a selling point of the Wii and they're abandoning it.

And if we take his fingers, how will he continue to pick his nose rather than make sure we get our games? We can't do that.

A lot of big title releases are basically a development hell scenario, since the companies that put them out went under and righs were auctioned.

Nintendo likely doesn't port a lot of games simply for merit of putting dev teams on new titles, anyway. Believe or not, the company doesn't have unlimited staff.

I'm not a fan of the VC, anyway. I own almost all of the older Nintendo titles I'm interested in, including ones that will never-in-your-dreams receive a port.

Sure, there are issues but nothing they should not be able to work around. How hard could it be to do something extra for the fans, like finish up Star Fox 2 and release that?

Kind of off topic but semi-related, I'm also highly disappointed in the complete and utter lack of GB/GBC/GBA ports on DSiWare as well.

Star Fox 2 was finished as Star Fox 64, and revisited in Star Fox Command.

Additionally, Nintendo's emulation of SEGA Games is based on a flawed, stolen port of one of the early emulators made for PC. The sound is off, something SEGA themselves also fudge up in their own.

In some cases, waiting for them to make it user-friendly is just silly. What they don't care to release you can emulate the old fashioned way anyway.

What are the numbers? That is, how many Ninty-published games aren't on VC yet, & how many 3rd-party? Don't count Mother & Earthbound; we already know what the deal is there.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

By my count, there were 74 Nintendo-published games for the NES with 35 currently on the VC in the NA region, 53 Nintendo-published games for the SNES with 17 currently on the VC in the NA region, and 53 Nintendo-published games for the N64 with 18 currently on the VC in the NA region. I don't feel like counting all the third party games.

There seems to be a lot more games currently on the VC in Japan right now, though. And most of the games not on the VC now are crap anyway. Except for Yoshi's Island. I want my Yoshi's Island, damn it.

I want the two that will never make the VC Earthbound and Chrono Trigger, though I have to admit that the VC gives me a chance at plenty of games I never had but wanted. The Castilvainia and Metriod games for example. Add in Wii Ware in geniral and I don't see too many problems with the libriay of availible VC games.

I can go without VC really.

Complaining about it makes you sound like a 10 year old, since there are much better games coming out in every direction.

Why the hell would you want games from the past? That's going backwards.

Mother/Earthbound Zero would like to have a word with you.

Same with all of those companies that are either
a) Bankrupt and were auctioned off
b) Are second party for Microsoft or Sony. (Sony was a developer for Nintendo back in the day. :P)

Well, although an English version isn't finished, a Japanese one is completed in full, aside from debugging tools. According to Miyamoto, 30% of Star Fox 64 was comprised from elements of Star Fox 2.

So, I'd be pretty pissed if I were a Japanese person.

And, Star Fox Command wasn't too good. It certainly drew from Star Fox 2, but it was also a fairly different game in its own right, especially in regards to controls and story.

I find that hard to believe. By your own numbers, less than half of Nintendo's NES games are released, a mere 17 out of 53 for the SNES, and 18 out of 53 for the N64.

You're telling me that the vast majority of Nintendo's games are crap? I find that difficult to believe. This isn't even counting the complete lack of GB/GBC/GBA games available which I mentioned earlier.
