Golden Sun: Dark Dawn

Review: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn Relives The Glory Days | Kotaku Australia

Looks fantastic for a DS game, IMO. Anyone else interested?

How many Golden Sun games were there? I played the two on the GBA, but for some reason I'm thinking I missed one on the Gamecube.

Yay.

Except I forgot how the entire plot went. Something about the Earth exploding? (Oh, spoiler.)

Nope. I think there was something about something...golden rising, followed by a UN Declaration of World Peace. I think.

I know that babies were made after whatever happened, as you can see from AI's post.

More about how the flat world would somehow be eroded away by the falls.

Really the only thing I'm a bit worried about from reading all of these reviews is the game's lack of difficulty compared to the first two, but I'm still picking it up anyways.

Arrow

They're going to lack difficulty, huh? The GBA games were already not hard. But maybe that was because I over-levelled because I got lost and wandered around the world, beating up everything that ran across me. Eventually I caught on that I was demolishing all of my enemies, so I started using the escape command when in battle.

There was only one tough fight that I can remember; it was an optional boss I think? It was some crazy skeleton pirate. Normally I'd just unleash a djinn every turn (each turn would use a different "defend attacks this turn" djinn, like Firewall) until I had enough for a level 4+ summon, and then wipe the floor with them. When the djinn recharge after the summon, they're automatically attached to your character, so wash, rinse, repeat. It's at this point that the class/stat bonuses from having a djinn attached are noticeable, as the pirate then proceeds to walk through the front door and one-shot party members.

Also, it felt awesome unleashing djinn. I don't know why I don't get that feeling playing other RPGs.

So true. And some of those summons make me feel like a god. Unleashing Djinn was great though. I felt like my gameboy shook every time I used Flint.

Yeah, that's why I'm worried. The only bosses that made things interesting (aka fun/frustrating) were the optional bosses. And even then you could always summon zerg your way through, at least in the second one.

I had trouble with the Damn Dragon- I mean the Doom Dragon, though. But that's mostly cause he'd use Djinn storm...then Cruel Ruin in the same turn so I'd get left with only Garet, Piers, or Felix. D:< the stupid thing once somehow used Cruel Ruin twice in the same turn so I had absolutely no chance at recovery.

This is a little of a bump but I purchased the game and am having a lot of fun with it. Their is actually a section in the beginning in which you go through and learn about the previous story somewhat. I haven't had any difficulty with enemies or bosses. So again as with the previous games the hardest part is finding every djinn and getting enough money for artifacts. The lumberjack camp puzzle was awesome and well thought out.

If you want the game to be harder than play without reading the signposts. Which are the guide on what to do in a puzzle. Without them the puzzles become more difficult and its more of a trial and error while hoping your mana doesn't get completely drained. An experienced RPG vet shouldn't expect to much trouble from any parts of the game. But I find revisiting some placed 30 years later to make this more of an epilogue game so far. Because you see more of the people in the originals and what happens to them. It is quite nice to hear Issic actually talk for once as well. You're display of feeling is just that an emoticon bar. While not to bad it does make me wish for something better since it doesn't make me feel as if I'm changing anything because the npc just responds and moves on.
