Nintendo DS the best-selling console ever in the US

Wii Tops 34 Million Units Sold in U.S., DS Tops 47 Million

I'm not sure how grammatically correct the thread title is, but my head hurts and I can't think straight.

Technically it isn't a console, but that stat doesn't surprise me. It's cheap, well designed, and has a great library of games in almost every genre.

It's probably my favorite platform after PC.

Love the DS and all, but there hasn't been much coming out for it. Everyone's saving it up for the 3DS. Say goodbye to the 2D appeal of the DS.

Two screens? How gimicky. Give it a week, Sony will obviously win.

And Nintendo did it again! =O

But honestly? The PSP might go dead if you leave it sitting and have less battery life. Games might cost a fortune and it may have a smaller library. But, I enjoy more of the games on the PSP than on the DS. I mostly use my DS to play GBA games to be honest O.O

I'm not like ... Bashing or anything. Both are great handhelds. Its just sad that Sony doesn't have a bigger chunk of the market :'<

Also, PSP 2 with the two analog sticks? Looks epic. On topic of the 3DS... looking forward to the Ocarina of Time 3DS! I just hope Sony will make great competition this time around >.<

I <3 Playstation

I turn my dads PS1 on just to hear the awesome sound it makes. Duuun DUUUUUN!

Oddly it kinda sounds like my Macintosh only it goes BONG! xD

This topic is about a month old, GP.

It's also old news in a sense. Please do watch what topics you bump, since their topics may have already been resolved. Maybe not in this case, but you never know.

It was probably on the first page pre-bump, so it's not that big of a deal, really.

The PSP doesn't have a larger market share because Sony failed to make games portable, and failed to release any compelling new titles for the majority of the important part of the system's life. Nintendo runs that risk with the 3DS, actually, because they may be mistaking portability to be an unimportant factor in a portable gaming system.

I haven't actually heard of many games I would consider interesting on the PSP, still. Same old Sony stuff, with spotty 3rd party support. The DS is lagging in every category, but I definitely got some good games out of it.

The DS was sorely lacking in the "has 'Lumines'" department.

Arrow

^^ I'm not sure what you mean by "lagging in every catagory". Do you mean hardware specs and battery life? Or things like 3rd party support?

Anyways, I think Nintendo's trying to emphasize the portable nature with the StreetPass feature. This feature might end up being a dud, but it shows promise. I think it's going to be like Dragon Quest IX and The World Ends With You though; they're somewhat infamous for being much easier to find other people in Japan playing a DS.

^ I meant current tech and software right now, the DS is out of date and out of touch.

The sound of a booting PS1 is one of the greatest sounds in the world.

I want to have that measured against how many game boys they have sold and how many DS they have sold and measure 1992 against 2010 or something to se how well they have done in total.

But 47 with about six zeroes after it is worthy a nod in approval.

Holy crap my bad xD

But yeah it was like not too far down on the first page so I had no idea it was that old! =O I will try to be more careful next time.

My problem with most DS games is that they just rely on the whole Stylus thing. The Stylus is why I never got a Tablet computer for school until the iPad. I never liked the stylus and even though its good on a PC for hand regignition and stuff, for everything is... it like.. its hard to hold on the DS without blocking your view... and... I get cramps

Also, just a lot of the games seem not very challenging to me. The PSP needs more games and less PS2 ports but the ones I have played are challenging and of very good quality. And I think its about as powerful as a PS2 only ... In your hands! =D

Web browsing sux though and is totally a better experience on the DS. Nothing beats using your fingers though (ie, iPod Touch/ iPhone/ iPad)

My preference of the PSP over the DS springs simply from the fact that my favorite game ever created got an even BETTER version of it released solely for the PSP. I'm easily convinced.

That said, the 3DS's eventual OoT, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attourney, Paper Mario, and Tales of the Abyss may overcome that with their powers combined.

I love the DS and all, but it doesn't really have any games for it that make me go OH MY GOD I AM GOING TO GET OUT MY DS TO PLAY THIS GAME. It's more of an "I'm traveling so I need a handheld, oh sweet a DS." Yknow? I never look at my DS and decide that I MUST PLAY IT RIGHT NOW, the way I do with a certain game on the PSP.

Funny. Most of the games I own don't have anything to do with the stylus.

It's really not nearly as powerful as a PS2, that's just Sony hyping. It's more like Dreamcast powerful at most.

Well, the specs for the Dreamcast are this.

CPU 200 MHz Hitachi SH4 RISC
Graphics 100 MHz PowerVR2 CLX2

The specs for the PS2 is this.

64-bit "Emotion Engine" clocked at 294.912 MHz (launch), 299 MHz (newer models)

Graphics "Graphics Synthesizer" clocked at 147.456 MHz

The PSP has this.

MIPS R4000-based; clocked from 1 to 333 MHz

With 64MB of RAM on the slim (the one I have)

Maybe the processor is bottlenecked. But the MHz puts it closer (to a hair faster) in speed to the PS2. The dreamcast is moot compared to the PS2 even in Processor speeds. So yes, the PSP is "as powerful" if not MORE powerful than the PS2.

Same here I suppose.

The ones I do have I suck at (except Warioware and maybe Layton.)

The DS's library never really impressed me.

I kinda like the DSi, though, if just for the web browser and Flipnote.
