Donkey Kong Country 2, scariest game ever?

This game is damn disturbing.

It's also damn awesome.

While, It's definately one of my favorite platformers of all time, and it does ooze atmosphere, how exactly is it scary?

Well, there's the music.

There's the feeling that you're all alone, a tiny little monkey in a world full of lizards and bugs, silently haunting you as you progress through each level.

And there's the giant bee that comes out of nowhere, with a simultaneous sudden change in background music.

I'm traumatized.

First one creeped me out the most, with the rock krems. Those guys were so awesome, though.

The part where you're playing as Rambi and are suddenly being chased by King Zing is pretty brick****ting, but other than that I can't think of anything really frightening from that game.

There was that one level inside of a wooden ship? Where the water keeps going up and down, and your being chased by a big killer fish? That was pretty scary.

Aside: I like how you climb inside of a honeycomb and when you're climbing up the honey walls, every now and then they take a big lick of it.

Haunted Hall was too cool to be scary.

I remember the Gnawtys in those millstones that would chase you in DKC scared me as a kid. The Rockkrocs are still freaky. The ripsaw from DKC3 and Krosshair from DKC3 and especially DK64 are the only other frightening things that come to mind.

True.

But still, it's the game's ability to make you feel alone in the world. Resident Evil I can stand, I mean, the game is supposed to scare you anyway. But Donkey Kong? It's a platform game! With monkeys! It's supposed to be merry, not creepy. Is it just me?

No, it's not just you. Dude, I know exactly what you mean? I mean, it's not scary in the way that I'm frightened enough to not want to play, but the atmosphere can be quite eery at certain times. Wonderful game though.

Am I the only one here mildly creeped out by the bosses from the original?

There's just something about facing something bigger than you that comes out of nowhere.

I wonder what it would be like if Mario had that kind of atmosphere.

Lockjaw's Locker or whatever it's called is definitely creepy. Eerie music, dim lighting, giant scary fish.

You mean the one with the angler fish that lights your way? Glimmer's Galleon.

Or maybe you mean Snapjaw, that piranha that lunges at you at unnecessary speed, meaning you can't even touch the water or you're dead. Then it's either Slime Climb (rigging level) or Clapper's Cavern (arctic level).

Either way, yes. Creepy as hell

^^ Lockjaw's Locker is the fourth level in the game (the first one that takes place in the interior of the ship).

I'm assuming you mean Slime Climb, which is this one:

It's a lot easier when you're able to find the Invincibility Barrel.

[Finding all the secrets is] a lot easier possible only when you're able to find the Invincibility Barrels.
I hate those levels that press you to advance and leave you no freedom to explore.

Me I've been trying to find all the secrets by myself (easier than it sounds), but the DK Coin at Lava Lagoon and a number of other secrets proved impossible for me, and I had to use a guide.
