3DS price drops to $169.99 starting August 12

3DS Drops to $169.99 from 12th August - 3DS News @ Nintendo Life

Quote:
Fresh from the announcement of the Japanese 3DS price drop we have news of the North American savings.

From 12th August the machine will drop to $169.99, down from $249.99, a huge price drop that Nintendo hopes will set the console up for a profitable holiday season.

If you've already picked up your machine, you're eligible for 20 free Nintendo 3DS eShop games including Game Boy Advance titles.

We've put together a special Nintendo Ambassador, eShop and Virtual Console FAQ to help explain what's going on.

If you've been on the fence about the machine, will you be picking one up now?
Neat.

...ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

I just bought one

EDIT: I actually read the article instead of just reacting. That 20 free game deal is actually pretty sweet. When/how is that redeemable?

1Up has some details on the games planned.

Quote:
The 20 free games aren't quite anything on the service. On September 1, qualifying users will get to download ten free NES Virtual Console games before they're released to the public "later in the year." These games include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, and The Legend of Zelda. Ambassadors are entitled to download the "updated versions" that will go live once they being being sold on the eShop, though it's unclear exactly what's different, if anything.

The other ten games will be Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games available to Ambassadors before year's end. Among the selection will be Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island; Mario Kart: Super Circuit; Metroid Fusion; WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. None of these ten are planned for release to the public.

There are some quality titles among the bunch, including Metroid Fusion and the other GBA titles that Nintendo says it doesn't plan to release to the public, so at least 3DS owners who paid full price will be able to say they got something for their money.
Typical NES lineup, the GBA lineup however I'm liking.

Oh trust me they'll keep their word on it, much like how the Wii Browser is 500 points still.

There are some really neat games coming out for it, I may eventually have to shell out and buy one. But right now, it's still too pricey for a system I would only have a small collection for.

Realistically, I will probably wait for the 3DS Turbo Deluxe version, then buy one of these used for like $80

If I buy one now at it's higher price, would I still be eligible for those 20 games?

Mostly because I'm impatient and I don't want to go out and buy a bunch of points cards later.
