New Nintendo 3DS With Less 3D, More Analog Sticks, Coming Soon

New Nintendo 3DS With Less 3D, More Analog Sticks, Coming Soon , News from GamePro

Quote:
The 3DS isn't doing great. While it's not a failure on par with the Virtual Boy, its reduced price and sorely lacking library already strikes most of us as Nintendo abandoning the system early.

But according to a French site (via 1UP), Nintendo is currently working on a second analog stick add-on, which will attach to the console's right side and cost $10.

A full system redesign is supposed to follow next year that will "not push 3D as hard as the current 3DS does" and will, presumably come with the extra analog stick already attached.

With no official word from Nintendo, this is pure rumor, and it could be completely off-base. But as someone who isn't much of a fan of 3D in any form anyway, I wouldn't mind a 2D 3DS on store shelves.
*shrug*

Why remove the 3D? If you don't like it put the slider all the way down.

This is just a rumour. The site it originated on has been reliable in regards to stuff like the NGP(now Vita) and WiiU controller in the past, but I'm not sure if I can believe this. The fact that the info is being 'divided' into 5 parts makes me believe the site just wants to generate traffic.

I mean look at the 1Up article:

Quote:
As such, it is reportedly now working on a separate device that connects to the right side of the system and is sold for about $10.
uh yeah how does that work? (hint: it doesn't, I think the only hole available is the headphone jack which is at the bottom-center of the machine)

A second pad/stick would be nice but I don't think any individual thinks that to be the big problem with the 3DS. Plus, they just dropped the price on the 3DS and gave early adopters free stuff. This is different from DS->DSlite: making something like this is only going to alienate customers, I think.

tl;dr: this is a dumb rumour, change the thread title I am the best listen to me

Yeah, I just grabbed mine to make sure. There's the LED light for Wireless activity, the power slot thingamabob, and the headphone jack which is, uh, in the middle. So what would it do, use wireless? Makes no sense whatsoever.

DEBUNKED.

Reminds me of those rumours about how Nintendo was making a DS with one screen and an analog stick around 2005.

The best Handheld is obviously the one with the most analog sticks.

Even Nintendo shouldn't be stupid enough to make those changes.

If sales are that bad, make it a nice $149.99 by Christmas bundled with a badass game and a special design, and get more games out there.

And I heard this system utilizes the horrid Friend Code like before, so abandon that to get more people onboard.

Yeah... I'd have a hard time believeing this. It sounds unrealistic from a tech point of veiw and it makes zero sense from a business point of view too.
All they need are games. Actual games for the system. That's why it's not selling.

And they're already selling it at a loss, so I highly doubt they'll be dropping the price again anytime soon. In fact, I believe this is the first time they've ever sold anything at a loss.

Gameboy Next, was it? That takes me back to when people were complaining about the lack of DS games...though to be fair I think the current situation is more dire than back then.

From what I've read, sales have picked up a bit already. I'd expect a Mario bundle around the holidays. No way it'll be that cheap though.

Every 3DS has one universal friend code. It's a step in the right direction, though probably still not what everyone would hope for.

The D-pad sheds a tear.

This rumor sounds like absolute donkey ****.

Although, given Nintendo's track record of releasing 700 versions of the same handheld, I can't completely label it as unbelievable.

IMO 3DS launched too early.

It just didn't have the starting line up it would have needed to make as much money out of the gate.

If they'd waited for Kid Icarus, Star Fox, maybe Devil Survivor Overclocked, Tales of the Abyss or MGS3DS then they'd have sold a lot more units early on.

Star Fox 64 3D would just be the same story with Ocarina of Time 3D: A great game, a surprisingly decent remake, still complaints about no original titles. Devil Survivor probably wouldn't be a great idea either, seeing as the entire SMT franchise isn't exactly as huge as Mario, Halo, etc.

I think a new 3DS upgrade announcement would be a tad early, even by Nintendo's standards of upgrading handhelds. Even if this is real I think it's the wrong move. As has been mentioned here before, there's just not enough good games for the 3DS at the moment. If it were launching in October with games such as OoT3D and Starfox available from launch and the new Mario Kart game on the way soon afterwards, I'd have got one there and then. As it is I find myself continuing to wait for enough decent games to justify a purchase.

A 3DS XL would look like the upcoming WiiPad with an extra screen.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

One of the biggest design flaws of the 3DS is a lack of secondary analogue. A large majority of 3rd parties can't port their existing properties to the system without one.

It's possible that the power port on the 3DS is capable of carrying data. Nintendo's done that multiple times before.
