Personally? I respect Nintendo's business acumen. They pulled a classic 'zig while everyone else is zaggin' move this generation and cornered a largely-untapped demographic. If anyone had told me eight years ago that Sony and Microsoft would be suckling hind-teat to the big N today, I'd have been surprised as can be. One must also acknowledge the success of the VC---making great swaths of its classic catalogue available on the current console (for a price) was a great idea, as Ninty's back-catalogue is unmatched (between in-house games and those of defeated rivals like NEC and Sega). That said, I feel like Nintendo doesn't make many games for me these days. Of this generation's platforms, I feel like the Wii was the least essential (again, speaking solely for myself)---going solely by numbers, I've bought a lot more games on 360 and PS3 this year (not solely because of exclusivity, either--- like, even when a game releases across all three platforms, I tend to choose the 360 or PS3 version, inasmuch as I consider the dual-analog set-up as more-or-less a standard). Don't misunderstand me---I'm not looking to start a fight, here. Just want to hear what you all think. Last edited by Booyakasha; 11-10-2011 at 05:20 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I really dig the whole return of the 2D sidescrollers thing they've got going on, though, and I loved Metroid Prime 3 and Twilight Princess as well as a good handful of third party titles that I think are really worth owning. I'm more of an arcade gamer at heart, so I liked the tendencies of games such as Red Steel and the Conduit. For me, personally, the PC and Steam have made all consoles irrelevant. I buy Nintendo systems for the first-party more than anything, and the others are really weak on that subject. They get a lot of exclusive deals with 3rd parties, but that makes me more unsympathetic. So, generally, the Wii is the only console this generation I felt made itself worthwhile, if only for a bit. The lack of titles doesn't make it a poor system, certainly. It just means Nintendo should've had something planned for this gap and they screwed up. |

But here's what I do think; the Wii had fewer top-tier games than it's predecessors, but that, in turn, made me appreciate the top-tier games it DID have more. |

I couldn't really afford the PS3, and I didn't see any games on it that I would be dying to play, but I got the 360. I enjoyed the 360 and played a lot of games on it too, but then it got itself the Red Ring of Death a few years later, so I've been playing solely the Wii and DS, as well as some older systems, this past year or two. |
