~Song of Solaris~

Prologue~

Ever since the dawn of History, great minds have studied such mysteries such as Pyramids of Birabutu and the many warp pipes that littered the landscape and speculated about their origins. Who built these wonders and what did they build them for? For many years the answers seemed to elude them. But after the discovery of the Shine Sprites on Isle Delfino, evidence of an ancient civilization began to spring up around the globe. Their findings were mindboggling. It seemed the more they looked the bigger this civilization appeared. What was once thought to once be a secluded island tribe of sun-worshippers turned into a mighty empire that spanned over two continents and the islands that stretched between them. Their numbers were vast and their races many. But the one race that ruled them all was the Neko-Neko: A race of super beings with bodies of men and the heads of fierce cats. It was said these beings controlled the power of the seven elements that held the universe together. But the element that was by far the strongest was their power of Light and Dark. It was also said it was their very powers that eventually led to their downfall. 5000 years ago, the Neko-Neko vanished from the face of the earth along with their empire. What became of these so-called gods of their time? None remain who know. But those who slumber beneath the sands seek to restore their fallen empire to their former glory. If such a thing happens, will history... repeat itself?

Chapter 1: Advent of the Goddess

3086 BC

Across and open prairie, and gentle summer breeze blows against the tall blades of grass. Hidden among them, a predator watches vigilantly as his prey drew near. How innocent she looked. Young. Unsuspecting. Her bright red hair and the clanging of her metal bracelets gave her away for miles. She was just begging to be swept away to some distant cave. She was within range. He made his move and…

“Kondimnu!” the boy cried out as the young Neko-Neko female pulled him up by his tail.
“Kiffus?” she asked him, totally confused.

“Setulhu!” the boy demanded.

She did as he asked and the boy fell to ground, right on top of his head. The boy got up and grabbed his aching skull. Nonetheless he got over his blinding pain and brushed the dirt of his clothes and heaved a great sigh.

“Por ducin essun!” he shouted suddenly, shaking his paw angrily in her face. She only shrugged in reply. He carried on swearing at her while slaughtering his native tongue. After getting bored with his ranting, the girl giggled and gave him a warm hug.

“Por essun ku?” he asked, sounding slightly softer than before.

She replied by handing him the pendant she wore around her neck.

“Nefertina!” he exclaimed, his eyes wide with fear, “Nye sin hansu essun!” He tried to give back to her but she refused.

“Hasin tali,” she said with a grin, “Sibaruru Infina!”

The boy returned the smile, tears streaking down his face. “Sibaruru Infina…” he repeated pulling the pendant close to his heart. Just as he did so, a terrifying noise came from above as a bright otherworldly light filled the skies. For what seemed like an eternity there was nothing but silence until one voice remained.

“Solaris…”

Present Day, Mushroom Kingdom Airport

“Race?”

“Uh... human?”

The Toad attendant looked up from his paper and studied the woman closely. She had wild red hair and harsh green eyes that darted around the room nervously. She looked like a caged animal just waiting to be let free.

“Funny,” he said, cocking his eyebrow with curiosity, “I never seen a human with ears and a tail like yours.”

“But I assure that I’m human! The Professor did a DNA analysis and everything! You gotta believe me!”

“STEP behind the yellow tape, ma’am.”

Meekly, the woman took a few steps back behind the clearly marked tape on the floor.

“Well appears that your passport seems legitimate enough. Tiffany Mario, right? Any relation to the Royal Mario’s?”

“No. No relation.”

“You know, it just so happens the prince is having a wedding on Isle Delfino. He's supposed to be hitched to some mermaid princess from the Coral Kingdom. You should check it out once you get there.”

“Are you kidding?” she said with a grin as she passed through the gate, “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
