best free MMORPGs? - VGF

I'm looking for any MMORPG that can be played for free (even if there is a pay section). There are so many out there that it's hard to choose, and not all of them are any good. I'm downloading Maple Story now, it seems different from other MMORPGs. Also, I would like to know if there are any that don't play like Runescape (IE click on the monster, watch it die, repeat). So many seem to and that gets old fast.

Well, Rakion is more an action game than an RPG, but it still has the stat building. rakion.softnyx.net

Basically (and its going to come down to this in 99% of the cases), you have to pay for anything that's quality. Sure, you can get some quasi MMO things for free, but you're going to have to pay for anything that's worth the time and effort.

Guild Wars is likely the best one without a monthly fee.

The whole "grind, click, grind, click, die" thing seems to be an epidemic with the MMORPG genre, although some are better (World of Warcraft) than others (Everquest).

I'm almost done downloading this game. I have decided either to pick the swordsman or ninja as a class. I might not pick the ninja, as I hear they are cheap with grapples. I probably won't pick the blacksmith, as it is supposedley quite slow. If there wasn't lag, I might deal with it. But lag is a fack of life and I need to be able to keep up.

If you want something like Lineage 1 or Diablo, you can check out Dragonraja. Just search google for new dragonraja or something like that.

It's at 57%.

doesn't this belong in the MMORPG forum? oh and try links to fantasy:trickster. It's fun and free....they make money from a cash shop....did i mention its not hell to level up like other mmorpgs?

The blacksmith is the tank/summon class. Ninja is designed to grab, archer is good at killscavenging, and swordsman does the best dps with his combos.

There's a new mode now too - "Boss War". One player is the boss on each team - they die, the team loses. The game also picks the weakest player as the boss, afaik.

Thanks for explaining Rakion classes, but I've neglected to say that me playing Rakion is a lost cause. I could play the training stages but could not play online. I guess it's because of the graphics card on this thing.

Also, I've just finished downloading Knight Online.

Then I found out you need to download an new expansion pack. it's 211MB.

Another thing, what is the size for Trickster's EXE? and is it just a clone of Maple Story? because that's what it looks like from the front page. I think I'll look again.

well i know of GUNZ a action game the idea is good but it over run with hackers ..shame though ..well i hope you find one you like and it total free :d

well....trickster is more like fairyland....if you ever played that MMO. You walk around building up your character in a variety of different ways...sense types are better at "drilling", magic types are better at using magic skills, and so on. Drilling is quite fun and its not a pain to level in that game. Thank god its nothing like maple story....bleh.

Runescape is a great game if you're a member. There's a whole lot more to do than clicking. Tons of new quests, monsters, items, new places to go, new skills, mini games. Of course, it's not free then, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I DO have flashget. What am I supposed to do with it to make my download faster? I split it up into 10 fragments and it's still slow as hell. I have 35-45 KBS, why isn't my computer using all of them?
