Well, the new Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion, which is bound to be the BEST GAME IN HISTORY, comes out today. I pre-ordered it, but it hasn't arrived, which hopefully means it shipped today and will come tomorrow... or at least by the end of the week. Share your thoughts here on the game as you play it. |

If I wasn't limited to 4 hours of computer a day, and if it was a weekend, I'd probably do that inadvertently, though. And... I'm serious. Well, okay, I guess I'd get up to eat and stuff. But that's about it. |

On a sadder note, I won't get mine until Friday at the earliest. On an even sadder note, my video card probably won't work with it. Last edited by Prince Toad; 03-22-2006 at 09:09 PM. |

I can't wait to get it though. It looks awesome and I loved and still play Morrowind. Speaking of which, I think I will go play it. |

Granted, it doesn't run great, but it's certainly manageable. Only played a few hours, but I already love it. The most noticeable thing it has over Morrowind is that it's so... organic. Things feel natural. For instance, joining the Thieves' Guild. I won't go into details, but suffice it to say that it's a little more involved than walking up to Sugar-Lips Habasi and saying you feel like joining. Combat, stealth, and magic are all light years ahead of Morrowind. Just the fact that you start with a minor healing spell, and you regain magicka constantly (unless you're born under the Atronach, but whatever), helps a great deal. The physics engine makes bows a lot of fun. Also, it's a little harder than Morrowind... you can't just walk into a house, kill someone, take all their stuff, and sell it over at the tradehouse. (Honest merchants don't buy stolen stuff, and I think you'd get into trouble with the law.) I could probably go on, but... I'm tired. |

I made it out of the opening area, then did a direct U-turn and headed for the Imperial City. 6 or 7 hours later...I'm still exploring the city and surrounding areas and taking on a few quests there. Simply amazing. For those of you with it, I just took a nap on the Bloated Float... ![]() |

One of the amazing things about this game-- I don't think it's actually a gigantic handicap to be a thief(!) or mage rather than a fighter. That's one of the things that annoys me about a lot of games where you're given this option-- it's always easier to be a fighter. Morrowind and KoToR, to name two, had this problem. But my Khajiit stealth character (custom class-- every stealth skill except Mercantile, which I replaced with Blade) has been doing quite well for himself in dungeons. And it's just incredibly fun to sneak up to a mudcrab and drop the thing in one sword swipe, or take out a skeleton archer from across the room without him ever knowing what hit him. I've been keeping mostly to the Imperial City too. Fast-traveled to Bruma once to sell some hot property to a fence, and then walked back, but aside from that it's mostly been the City and a number of the dungeons surrounding the lake. Currently level 4. |

I'm playing a Breton mage/thief combo; I always find myself naturally playing a thief in these types of games (why ignore all that loot when it's there and you aren't stealing from anyone real?) and I always wanted to do a good mage character in Morrowind. So I've got a fun combination of decent magic, improving archery (with a little blade to back it up), and improving security/sneak skills going on right now. Finally left the city and headed west towards Chorral for the next part of the quest. Stopped off at a couple of infested forts and cleared those out, beat down a highway bandit that tried to get the jump on me by hiding in the bushes, and I'm ready to talk to Jafar about this whole Amulet of Kings business now. Yes, I know that's not his real name. ![]() |

Gender: Posts: 243 Thanks: 6 Thanked 4 Times in 4 Posts | I do so wish I could get Oblivion. But for one thing, I don't (and won't) own a 360, and my computer can't handle another game. Unless I take off Morrowind... Eh, I still don't think it could handle it. =( Plus, I'm highly distracted by SO3, Xenosaga II, and KH2, which comes out this Tuesday, I might add... Still, I envy all of you who own Oblivion. It sounds great! |

I mastered lockpicking... so I managed to break out of the Bruma jail. (If you've never been in jail, that means I picked a very hard lock-- Bruma's is very hard, Imperial City's is hard, dunno about the others-- with just one pick.) Unfortunately the jailor was sitting right there, so I had to run like hell. I made it to the gate, left the city, and jumped on a horse that happened to be sitting there. I rode all the way back to the Imperial City, since I didn't have any of my equipment and I was being chased by wolves and guards. Eventually they caught me outside of the stables and I had to go to jail, but it was still awesome. I'm always a thief in these games, at least initially. I had about six or seven characters in Morrowind, three or four of which were really good. I dunno what kind of character I'll make next. But... it turns out that including Blade might not have been worthwhile. My guy's terrible with a sword. When I use shortswords, he doesn't do any damage, and if I use anything heavier my fatigue isn't good enough to handle it. Actually, I haven't tried a longsword, which I'll do next time I'm fighting up close. But he's much better off with a bow, especially sneaking. Not sure when I'll continue the main quest. I did the Thoronir one you get from Jensine (took literally all of my healing potions to win the fight at the end, but I did it) and the Arnora one in Bruma, plus the first Thieves' Guild "special job." However, the next special job involves me going to Cheydinhal. I don't think I have much else to do right now in the City, so maybe I'll just go to Chorrol once I clean out this dungeon I last saved in. |

Unfortunately, the couple of times I've been caught so far I paid the fine and got out of going to jail. Did visit the Imperial City prison though to taunt that other prisoner mocking me in the beginning. I never had time to play through Morrowind multiple times (did start a second game but didn't get very far), so I promised myself a long time ago I'd make sure to develop a decent mage from the start this time in Oblivion. Yep, I've done the Thoronir quest too. Did you notice that Thoronir and the "supplier" met beside a hollowed-out tree stump that acts as a container? Maybe it was just me, but it seemed like a little "shout out" by the developers to one of the early quests in Morrowind where you follow a guy in Seyda Neen (just like you follow Thoronir, and both were Bosmer too I think) that hides something in a hollowed-out tree stump. ![]() Oddly, I still haven't run across any guilds yet. I think I remember one of the guards mentioning that there weren't any in the Imperial City, so that's probably the reason. I'm getting ready to do the next section of the main quest after the Priory, but I'm sure I'll get distracted dozens of times before I reach my next destination! |
