Second Life

Do any of my fellow VGF denizens participate in the Social Networking program Second Life?

It is basically a chat program with an open game buitr in. Some people actually make a living off of virtual real estate, virtual apparel, and being virtual artists. The game is pretty big money, but completely free. You only pay when you want to buy something from another.

Anything you can program, animate or render you can put in the game.
I've seen Miyazaki characters to a giant penis to furries to almost real looking avatars walking around.

Second Life: Your World. Your Imagination.

You download and join on seperate pages.

Tell me what you think once you get it. The slowest part is probabbly finding an unused first name. Family names are generated by the game.

Arrow I've enough trouble with my First Life

I've heard about it, but don't play it. Sounds a bit too sandbox-ish for me.

I tried it for a bit. Was making a sort of Megatron avatar out of blocks - then got pulled into something else. Now I'm too daunted to look into it again.

It is completely sandbox, but if you don't want to make your own, there are a lot of freebies around.

You didn't answer his question.

Looks a tad bit complicated for me.

I couldn't even get this to run in the first place. I think it requires a lot of speed. Plus, I've heard of mega-nerds who pretty much abandone their actual lives just to run around a virtual world and do....well....things. Things I will not elaborate on, but I'm sure you could guess what they are.

I gave Second Life a try. It is pretty much a whole bunch of nothing, no fun at all.

^ It's free to use, but to get the full experience, you need to purchase L$ (lindon dollars). There is also a premium version, which gives you an allowance and the option to own land.
