yes it is...you can't play burning crusade without the original world of warcraft. But you don't NEED the burning crusade to play the original.

right,right and say, for example, i am a blood elf and i baught the burning crusade expansion. and ma mate was a tauren. would he have to buy burning crusade to see or contact me?

No, you can play with him and chat with him just as usual.
The only limit is if you go to an expansion area, such as the blood elf starting areas. Then he can not go there with you.

thanks! too bad he's a cheapskate... damnit! ive studied this for aaaggesss (coz i cant get warcraft yet) but i still have soo many questions!!!!! do you choose professions and never change them like your race?? or is it something you can swithc between all the time?? same question for classes.

The race, class, gender and appearance for a character is permanent, but you can unlearn your professions and get a new one as much as you want.

However, you'll lose your skill level in the profession, and you have to start over from scratch if you ever decide to learn it again.

how long does it take to get from, lets say, the tauren starting place t the blood elves starting place. does it take ages and will he get killed if he's real weak?

Well hopefully when your level 13 you'll be out of the beginner's area. After that make your way to The Crossroads and level up from there. The same goes for the taurens except I think the taurens are better off as they are right next to the barrens. Blood elves have a bit of a longer trip to make. And if your worried that you need a credit card(which was the vibe i'm getting) then dont worry about it. You can play with just prepaid gamecards and refill every time your close to empty.

Call me your warcraft expert!

you have to visit the weapon master who will teach you that. They are located in all of the capital cities. I don't remember which one will teach swords. Maybe Orgrimmar?

Pretty much anything in the game can be interpreted as offensive, really. Just goes to show how lame people can get.
And what's this about Undercity being gory. That place is metal, and due to a glitch I found while not doing online classes, very easy to raid. Let's not forget that the inhabitants are the second-most attractive race in the game.
