So, I have strong reason to believe I'm getting a laptop this year. (Because of this. Mother: Your dad's getting you a laptop.) I want some input from you people. What's a good laptop? I don't have many needs, really I'll just be going online, making sprite comics, and I've always wanted to try MMORPGs. And all I need for sprite comics is the equal of "MS Paint" Still, I'll be looking around websites, I was just wondering what you people think. Plus, I don't know anything about laptops. It's been so long since I've actually used a computer for something other than going online at the library, I've forgotten a lot. I don't know how that happens. |

Gaming isn't really a good thing on notebooks because of the power constraints. If you get Vista, make sure you have 2 gigs of RAM. Actually, get 2 gigs of RAM to begin with, anything less is uncivilized. That's the main thing I can say with it without knowing budget constraints. All really depends on budget. Which, if we don't know, we can't really recommend. If you're looking at brands, Dell/Alienware, Toshiba, maybe HP. I prefer customization, so Dell worked well for me (HP to a lesser extent, they load you up with more crap than Dell). |

As computers I own don't generally do that, especially not after repeatedly being sent in for repair. Not even my old Thinkpad has problems like that. |

| Marshmallow Knight ☆ Supermod | Dell is acceptable, for sure. IBM is okay as well, but pricier. Alienware is too expensive for no good reason. I recommend against Compaq; everyone I know who had one had a crappy one. One would overheat when you put it on a solid surface because the fan vent is on the bottom (???), and the other had a bad CD drive (he had to spin it up manually before inserting it). I have a Toshiba, and it's been faithfully serving me for the past four-five years. |

That's what I'm doing. |

I love my current Desktop, which has been running for about three to four years and has not had one single problem. Our Dell laptop? It's a Vista and already has had some problems. __________________ Can I has signature? |

As far as I know, you can easily upgrade your RAM (up to 4 gigs) and hardrive space (250 GB) as needed (although, for just internet and sprite comics, you may not even need to upgrade). The only thing about Macbooks is the lack of games for it. It has WoW on it, but that's pretty much it (although the market is improving). From my experiences, I have an iMac myself, and can say that's it has quite enough RAM for most applications and more hardrive space than I know what to do with. The only thing is that I had to download a paint program, but you should be able to find an adequate program online for free with no hassle. |

| Gale/Cl 2008: All your VGF are belong to us | I have an HP entertainment center notebook. It's an awesome laptop, and certainly less expensive than Alienware and the like. It's been a faithful workhorse for a while, so I can recommend it. Otherwise, if you guys have cash, I will say get a ****ing Alienware laptop. Or a Macbook as Auron suggested. |

| Heat-Seeking Pleasure Machine | Alienware is super expensive. Just remember to add 20% onto the recommended specs of what game you want to play when playing it on a laptop. Make sure to get a video card that doesn't slurp RAM and CPU off the main system, but instead has its own resources. Oh, and don't buy Acer. They stuffed around our family for ages and eventually "fixed" the problem ... after 3 months. __________________ Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users? -Clifford Stoll |

The one thing I would say that could be an issue with them is that they aren't the most portable guys. If you're looking for something that's easy to haul, you can do better than most Dell notebooks. Otherwise I'd reccommend a Dell. |
