Doom 3 is a fun game, but I'd hardly call it the greatest FPS ever made. It has that old school feel that I love, but you know, after playing games such as Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, and Farcry, here we have Doom 3, which is a graphical powerhouse of a game that... Well... Hasn't changed much gameplay-wise since the original Doom. It is still your narrow corridor run-and-gun where you collect key cards (or in this case PDAs) to progress from one area to the next.

Everything is as dark as all Hell. And I really do get annoyed by the patented "FLASHLIGHT JUGGLING TECHNOLOGY (tm)" this game features. Also, the shotgun doesn't seem to be as good in this game as it did in the prior games. In any case, it is still a fun game that I'm glad I bought... Well, almost. Paying $55 for an average FPS is sad, but hey, when I bought mine I got a Doom 3 T-shirt packed with it, so at least I didn't feel too bad.

And yes, I did have to upgrade my PC to get this game to run... Okay, I take that back; I had to buy a whole new PC. My old one is about had it anyways, so I ordered a bunch of parts and built a new PC myself. And this is what I ran Doom 3 on:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1 GB DDR 400 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB

The game can run fluidly on High Quality at 1024x768 resolution with no problem. Once you switch to Ultra Quality, which I really didn't see THAT much of a difference, my computer tried to explode into a ball of fire. I'll never try that again.

Overall, I give the game about a 7 out of 10. Good game, but it just ain't GROIN GRABBINGLY GOOD.

You know what we need more of? WWII-based FPS. I don't think I've purchased enough of those.
