What do you prefer in a Firewall and Anti Virus program? Have you noticed if they're effective or not? What else have you tried and discarded? How else do you keep your computer clean? |

I don't like firewall programs. I like the hardware kind. Only way to go. And yes, they're generally effective. Spybot Search and Destroy. Only way to go. |

Edit:If you want to know how I know this, take a wild guess. Also my planetside outfit has a tech support forum and we have some guys that a really good with computers If something comes up that nobody here can answer after a while I'll go ahead and ask about it there. | Marshmallow Knight ☆ Supermod | I just use the built-in Windows XP firewall and don't use a AV program; Spybot and Ad-Aware are more than enough for that. I don't really notice any performance boost at all, but it's just for a little peace of mind. As for other techniques, I don't install things in general. The games I play only need the core application, which I'm pretty sure isn't malware, and ROM files which cannot be malignant. Every now and then, I also check up on my Task Manager to make sure unknown resident programs are running without my knowledge. |
