Pokémon Gen-5 Details In Next Issue Of CoroCoro // Siliconera

Quote:
Serebii.net is reporting that the upcoming issue of CoroCoro magazine, which releases this April 15th, will contain new information on the upcoming Gen-5 Pokémon games. Before the magazine reaches newstands, however, Pokémon Sunday will be revealing the games in a “shock announcement” on-air.

This highlights an interesting question: are the new games going to be for the 3DS exclusively or will they be compatible with current DS models and the 3DS?

According to a CNBC report, the 3DS announcement was made prematurely by NCL at the expensive of Nintendo of America in order to avoid a potential leak resulting from Japanese press and supplier knowledge of the device. Also, consider the fact that Gen-5 was announced well ahead of the 3DS itself, complete with a new movie tie-in, and is scheduled for release in 2010. This would mean the games have been in development for quite some time.

Taking this information into account, one has to wonder if the newer games were always intended to be presented as DS titles, with 3DS functionality announced at a later date.

Going by common sense, one would assume that an entirely new Pokémon game would launch alongside new hardware, especially in light of rumours of Game Freak being given priority with regard to 3DS developer tools. On the other hand, the company has also been recruiting of late, and the official site recently received an overhaul, which could indicate that they’re only just starting to ramp up for a bigger project, which could be their 3DS game if Gen-5 isn’t it.

The next two weeks are going to be very interesting indeed. CoroCoro information tends to leak before the actual magazine reaches newsstands, so keep an eye out for more info any time between now and the 15th.

I have seen something that looks like it may be a leak, actually.

It could be a very well-done april fools joke though. I do hope that it wasn't though...

Spoiler Below

-It looks like there's a trio of three-stage dragon types. The sheet I saw may have mixed up the grass one with the grass one before it, which was grass, grass-rock, then grass-rock. I would much prefer grass-rock starter over Grass/Dragon...because seriously...Grass/Dragon?! STARTER?! Can you say, OP?
-Lapras and Skarmory look like they get better evolutions. o 3o
-FINALLY Fire/dragon
-Looks like the Ghost and Bug types may be getting some much-needed love.
-NARWOHL POKEMON. WANT.
-POLAR BEAR POKEMON. WANT.
-There was a pokemon based off of the Stay Puff Marshmallowman? interesting.
-BOUT TIME they have seaweeds.
-More Jellyfish? okay. Beats Tentacool.
-Onix pre-evolution?
-More regis...Surprised? Nope.
-I don't dislike that many pokemon this time. I mostly thought a lot of Gen IV was forgettable, but it still had some really good mons like Luxray.
-AGH!!! EVOLUTION OF JYNX?! AAAAAAAH!!! KILL IT!!!
-Ghost/Fighting? Nice.
-Stoneon, Poiseon, Flutteon, and Nimbleon...okay good. More eeveelutions.
-It looks like Eevee may have a water equivalent. No not Vaporeon.
-Hitmonsumo and Hitmondo.
-Is there going to be another Wobbuffett type gimmick pokemon?
-KANGAROO!! GOOD!
-Rock/Fighting? wow.
-GHOST/FIGHTING. YEEEEHAAAA!

Can you post this, Douglas? It sounds interesting and I'd like to take a look at it for myself, just for the hell of it.

Subzearo...my god, Midway/Warner Bros. may sue. It's an obvious rip-off...

Well, some of them look good, but we still need a single Flying type. No reason to not have it yet.

Sprites kinda look...off to me. Can't put my finger on it.

Now that I think of it, didn't they "release" only several Pokemon at a time for GenIV? Like, we'd get Happiny and Shinx one issue of Corocoro, and others...later. Then again, no one can say they'll do the same thing again, but that's in my thoughts. Probably irrelevant if that list is supposed to be an overall leaked list and not just a leak of an issue of Corocoro.

^It may be the real list, but some of those sprites are custom. Seriously, a lot of them look like sprite edits to me.

Why wouldn't Nimbeon be pure Flying? Also, Valenheart pretty much proves that it's a joke.

And remember, "I'm-a Charizard, number, well, six."

I did some searching, and I think I found a topic that confirms it as fake.

^Excellent. Notably, the two wolf-based pokemon were real, or atleast confirmed. Way too many Legendaries on the list, mind you.

Figured my suspicions were right. Oh well. They still did do a nice job at some of those sprites.

So I guess we can breathe a sigh in relief that hopefully, Jynx will not have an evolution. And be angry that there may not be the much needed ghost/fighting and ghost&Bug love. Or the bears.

^^ Which is the problem. Every generation, there's a trio(or duo) of Normal/Flying and it's lame. Yes, they always start with Tackle and usually one of the simple status effect moves. There's often two, one based off of a direct bird, and the other one more of a fiercer type. This was obviously reversed in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, though.

I'd still like to see a pure Ghost type as well. What hasn't been pure types yet? Rock, Steel, Ghost, Flying...and I think that's it. Grass might've been...but I think Leafon took that problem away.

Yep, pure grass.

Misdreavus and it's evo, Shuppet, Banette, Duskull and it's evos are pure ghost.
Mawile and Registeel are pure steel.
Sudowoodo, Nosepass and Regirock are pure rockman.

Guess so. I guess the logic is that "they're a perfectly normal birdie" or something.

^Simple, just have it not be a bird. All the Norm/Fly types are birds. Since the Eeveeons are all dog/squirrel things, that's covered.

And remember, "I'm-a Charizard, number, well, six."

Then what would be flying without being a bird? Another balloon pokemon like Drifblim?
