The Nuzlocke Challenge

Nuzlocke Comics

Apart from the comics being amusing, the challenge itself is also pretty bitchin'. I'm planning to do it myself as soon as I can get a charger for my old Gameboy Advance SP and DS and ****.

inb4 this already existed/was posted/has been done in some other form

Currently doing this challenge.

My rules are pretty much the basic ones. No added or implied ones. I may add some rules to my Crystal playthrough, but not my Ruby playthrough.

One casualty so far: Feist the Poochyena (lvl. 2 - lvl. 8). Sad as ****, even though I lost her only thirty minutes after having caught her. Been supermegagrinding to keep everyone else even and alive.

Current team:
Sheff the Grovyle (lvl. 21)
Gavin the Aron (lvl. 17. Is it me or do these little ****s level up way too slowly?)
Stardust the Zigzagoon (lvl. 18)
Cuddy the Whismur (lvl. 19)
Garnet the Taillow (lvl. 21)

We're all tight. I caught/got all of these ****ers at level 9 or lower, and the grinding has been a bitch so far... I'm just trying to keep these guys with me. So that it will be even sadder when they die. On second thought, maybe grinding isn't a good idea.

I stopped doing mine after a while, but I may revisit it. I was past the 7th Gym and on my way to do moar, so we shall see.

I started a sort of Nuzlocke challenge on HeartGold when I bought that, which means I followed the nickname rule and eliminated 'mons that fainted in regular battles from my team, but I chose not to eliminate 'mons that fainted in gym battles/elite four battles because I wanted to enjoy the game on my first play-through. Wish I could find my copy and resume.

^It's optional. Like, if you want to make it harder, you can go without them, but it's not one of the standard rules.

K, so I found my copy of Ruby and every goddamn Pokemon I had in my boxes is missing. No idea what happened, but I have a meddlesome little brother and that probably explains it. My core team is still there, but I need to go catch and grind a new 'mon because I had just lost Kofi the Koffing in battle and put him in the box. It's not like I lost much, just pisses me off that all of my reserve doods are gone.

I am assuming that this nuzlocke challenge means that pokemon are released once they faint? I have not played any pokemon games since Red.

^That's how it's supposed to be, treating them as dead.
Though I think some people keep them just so they can transfer them later or something.

Thing about it is is, apparently I got lucky when it comes to crits, because crits apparently claim the majority of lives in this type of thing. I only lost like 3 or 4 pokeymans, and I was pretty close to near the end of Ruby... I should probably finish that run and see if my luck continues (my team is fine for now, but I can tell they're going to be ****ed during the E4 fights).
