Pokemon of the Week #120: Chandelure

Chandelure

Type: Ghost/Fire
Weaknesses: Dark, Ground, Rock, Ghost, Water
Resistances: Normal (immune), Fighting (immune), Fire, Grass, Steel, Bug (x.25), Ice, Poison
Base Stats:
HP: 60
Attack: 55
Defense: 90
Special Attack: 145
Special Defense: 90
Speed: 80
Abilities: Flash Fire - increases the power of fire type moves by 1.5x when hit by one
Flame Body - 30% chance of burning the foe when it makes physical contact
Dream World Ability: Shadow Tag - The Pokemon opposing Pokemon cannot switch except by Baton Pass.

Shiny Chandelure looks like this:

March's movesets:

I'll give you three this time.

Choice set

Nature: Modest/Timid
Item: Choice Specs/Scarf
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Spd

Moves:
Overheat
Shadow Ball
Energy Ball
HP Ice/Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Heat Wave

Since your opponent can't switch when you have Chandelure in you can simply switch in and get a guaranteed kill. Specs is for Power, Scarf is just in case you need to outspeed something.

Calm Mind Sweeper

Nature: Timid
Item: Leftovers/Life Orb
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 4 HP, 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Spd

Moves:
Calm Mind
Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Heat Wave
Shadow Ball
Energy Ball/HP Ice/Filler

This has great potential, especially if you switch into a Choiced Pokemon that's using a Fighting or Normal Attack. You can just set up and potentially sweep their whole team. It's pretty crazy.

Bulky Chandelure

Nature: Calm
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Sp. Atk, 252 Sp. Def

Moves:
Will-o-Wisp
Hex
Pain Split
Acid Armor

This has potential to be the most annoying thing ever. It actually makes me want to use one...

I really like Chandelure with Choice Specs. Extremely useful, especially with STAB Shadow Ball. Some crazy power there. And, Choice Specs Overheat is riDICulous.

Even without Choice Specs it's ridiculous. Like when I was playing on the Multi Train one time, the chick that pairs with you brought a Chandelure with a White Herb and it just wrecked everything.

Aw, c'mon, how does a chandelier not have Levitate?

And remember, "I'm-a Charizard, number, well, six."

Chandelure is a great pokemon, and commonly used on VGC teams this year. My favorite in-game pokemon was actually a toss-up between either krookodile or Scrafty with their moxie abilities.

Also, Chandelure can learn heat wave as an egg move from father slugma/magcargo which can only learn it as a move tutor back in heart gold or soul silver.

In-game, Krookodile is freaking amazing. I took out most of the E4 with him alone. Good old K. Rool...

Now THIS was one of the best Pokés in the 5th gen. I was going to be so annoyed at GameFreak if there wasn't a Ghost/Fire or Fire/Ghost type based off of something like a Will-o-the-wisp or the Hitodama or whatever it is.

To view battle videos in pokemon b/w with wifi enabled, go inside pokemon center and upstairs to the lady on far right next to globe, select battle videos, "view or upload", once connected to wifi "View battle videos", "Search by No.", then enter the number I posted before similar to entering a pal pad.

cool eh?
