How does everybody here feel about firearm ownership?

I am a strong supporter of gun rights and I view gun control laws as unconstitutional. I believe that if a person is law abiding, there should be no restrictions on the type or number of firearms he/she can own.

Yeah, why not let everyone in America own a machine gun? What harm could it do?

What harm would a law abiding person (with any type of firearm) do?

If you remove gun ownership from civilions all it will do is prevent the law abiding citizens from having guns. The criminal eliment will find a way to get the firearms they need.

Exactly. Criminals will break every law to get what they want; that's why they're criminals, right?

Yeah, unless you can station an armed police officer with insomnia in every house in the country, average citizens should definitely be allowed to own guns (after clearing a brief background check).

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I know you're being cyinical about the officer with the sleep disorder. But I wounder how long it would take for someone to shout fourth amendment in that situation and nulify it?

I got an even better idea. It'd clear up this epidemic of violent kids we're always hearing about. What if we had a branch of police that arrested people who not only bought guns that could be used in violent crimes, but just thought about committing a gun crime? A sort of "thought police", if you will...

I don't think it would be good to have gun control in the US, as they're used to having the right to own a firearm. However, I don't think it's a good idea to allow guns in countries where they are not allowed, like my own country.

^Out of curiosity, what happens if there's a gun-related crime around your parts?

Just limit civilians to only be able to obtain a nomral handgun and perhaps a rifle (for those who like hunting.)

Anything else (automatics, sniper rifles, etc) is stuff normal people really shouldn't have. Just allow the Military and Police forces to have those.

Whatno shotguns, or what about semi autos? Are we to be left high and dry with revolvers? Granted civilion don't need laws but a semi auto handgun is more reliable then a revolver also less old fashioned ( I'd use a better word here but I don't want to butcher the spelling.)

Beam is dead on. Maybe a semi-automatic handgun, but no more.

Sampson, what guarantee is there that they'll remain law-abiding? If you could see people's futures and decide that yes, it was perfectly safe, then what the hell. But there's no way of ensuring that someone won't do something unlawful. If they don't have a machine gun, sniper rifle, or other extremely dangerous weapon, then chances are even if they do that unlawful thing anyway, it's going to be a lot less destructive.

Cap'n, I'm guessing they call the ****ing police. The hell do you think they would do?

So nobody gets a gun because there is a possibility that they could possibly not stay lwaful while having a gun?

Normal people shouldn't be allowed to own high performance cars, only race car drivers should.

For the record, I own two assault style rifles and what could be called a sniper rifle. These weapons are no more dangerous or destructive than any other firearm. They may look different, but they function just like any normal firearm.

See my above reply. As far as the law abiding citizen turning bad scenario, it does happen, but should the majority of people who abide by the law be restricted(from owning firearms or anything in general that might be considered "dangerous") because of the few who would break the law? That would be like not allowing cars, alcohol, or sex, because of a few reckless drivers, alcoholics, or rapists.

Blaine-- no. Read again. I don't like having to repeat myself (but if you miss it again, I'll have to.)

Sampson-- No, it isn't like sex or cars, because the express purpose of guns is to kill things. I don't know what you'd need with a car that can go 200 miles per hour or whatever. ...wait... you own two assault rifles? What the hell? What could you possibly need them for? If you're worried about protection, unless the entire ****ing Mafia comes into your house I'm pretty sure a semi-automatic handgun is okay. Look, I'm sure that you yourself aren't going to go on a crazy rampage, but... as I said... if you do snap, I'd rather you not have an assault rifle. Which you could not possibly need. Or even have any use for.

Sorry, but automatics and sniper rifles and such on are far, far more dangerous AND powerful than a normal handgun.

Like PT said, there's no need for them at ALL, unless if by some crazy chance you're in trouble with the Mafia.

Assualt Rifles mangle everything. They do FAR more damage than a Hand gun.

Sorry Prince Toad this is kinda a touchy subject for me and I got carried away. What's wrong with shotguns? They're great for home defence and hunting ( big game). A frind of mine who is hoping to be atleast a US ranger( forgot the proper name) or be in SWAT has two assult rifels both semi auto and one with a hair trigger. But he the most causis person I know when it comes to using firearms responcibly. And did you know that it's technicly legal for US citisons to have full autos. No i'm not talking about the Brady bill expiring, there was some clause in legislation that said as long as you apply for a licence, and Buy one that was made in 1986 or earlier.
