I think part of the reason Bush was re-elected was because of Kerry's strong anti-military platform. It would be stupid to dramatically downsize your only defense after what Bush had already instigated in his first term.

I wouldn't vote for anyone with that plan in mind anyway.

Addendum

The reason Bush got re-elected is because the democrats have been notorious for shooting themselves in the foot ever since Clinton left office. The Democrats lack the united effort necessary to take the oval office and/or the legislative branch back from the Republicans. Personally I don't even think the democratic committee themselves had faith in John Kerry's chances against Bush. They probably knew he wouldn't win, but who else do they have?

^I agree with that, sadly. The problem is we never have a platform and the Republicans always have one that sucks (always making sure Gay Marriage is at the forefront and paying preachers to tell them voting for Democrats is sinful (as happened in some North Carolina church), when there's more important issues out there such as Medicare, Outsourcing, Global Warming, etc).

But I honestly think the Dems are getting themselves together, and hopefully, they can make inroads this year (but not take back either house), and in 2008, perform a major sweep. -CSM

^Unless they nominate Hilary for president, in which case they will crash & burn on that race.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
