Bush Commutes Libby's Sentence

Bush commutes Libby's prison sentence - CNN.com

Thus showing that administration higher-ups are indeed above the law, and disgusting anybody with the slightest sense of justice.

My main problem with this is if Libby were a poor black man, the sentence would be much harsher and Bush wouldn't pardon him. -CSM

Technically, Bush didn't pardon him, just made sure he doesn't have to do any jail time. I disagree with the above statement anyway... it should read that if Libby were a democrat, Bush wouldn't commute his sentence. He said it was "too harsh"... god forbid any government official who breaks the law actually serve jail time and be punished for their crimes. Justice is blind - everyone is equal... and should be treated that way. But then again, the US justice system is so screwed up to begin with...

What really frightened me was when it said "it is an absolute right of the president". Checks and balances, anyone?

Oh, and... for god's sake, he's issued four of them??!

There are 2 things I really can't say here: That I'm pleased & that I'm surprised.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It is an absolute right.

As far as the appropriateness and his reasoning? Bad to both counts.

Real reasoning? Libby in a cell is a ticking timebomb that would go off the second someone said "immunity for testimony" to him.

Lurch is right. The President has the right to pardon people. The President also usually abuses this power. -CSM

Even made the news over here, which is interesting.
I'm pretty sure Bush knows he's got no hope of winning back popularity, so he's just going for broke.

^He can't be reelected & won't be impeached; he doesn't need popularity.

Yeah, but he's making the Republican party look like ****. Not that they didn't already, but they're losing voters over him for certain.

We should play a game. It's called "Think of things that make YF want to become a political activist because he's tired of the bullsh*t.".

Oh, wait, the games over.
