Right from the desk of right wing extremists.

Vision America: Vision America Victory in Albemarle County, Va. School District

This is about a school district in Virginia that forbade fliers going home in backpacks advertising a Bible camp. The Christian groups complained and they were allowed to do it. But an atheist group started sending home fliers, and the same Christian group wanted to ban the atheists. And this article gives their "justification." They think that because 90% of Americans are Christian, they should be held to different standards than other faiths. Whatever happened to the First Amendment? Oh, and read their statement of opposing Buddhism.

I wonder what Betasoldier has to say about this. -CSM

this is a outrage... why would anyone care what they send home with kids... the kids don't read it they just give it to mom and dad or if they are like I was forget about it. They are too young to get in a religous battle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Thomas Jefferson, one of the writers of the Declaration of Independence, a secular humanist? He wrote letters while in office about the separation of church and state, and the necessity of that principal.

Oh the irony.

They're wrong; the USA is 80% Christian.
Also, they're dumbasses.

Why on earth would people hold a Christian summer camp or an atheistic summer camp? Why not just have some fun and not get religion involved.

(P.S. The "Return of the Great Old Ones Summer Camp" is next week. Start handing out the damn fliers.)

^Because the cynic's guide to religion tells you that they're just like tobacco companies: hook em while they're young.

Leave it to VA to mess up a basic first amendment thing. Young children don't have the same rights as teenagers or even adults, and the better policy is to pretty much not allow anything like this regardless of faith. Interesting they sue to force their fliers home with the kiddies, but get very very pissed when groups they don't like use the loophole they created.

This just strengthens my beliefs that flyers shouldn't be passed in elementary schools. At least not religious or politically based flyers. It creates more trouble than it's worth.

Well... I shouldn't post because I know I should stop getting involved here. Like I said in the other topic, doesn't mean I don't read this forum still though. Well, I was asked so what the hell...

I think what they're doing is hypocritical and wrong. I don't think either group should be allowed to send a flier home through school, because as RBM said, it's more trouble than its worth. Also, there are plenty of other means to distribute said fliers without causing such disruptions. Either allow it for everybody or don't.

Somebody above was right in that they're sueing because they don't want their children going to hell. In their eyes they're protecting their children, that's why they're doing this and hence, to them they're not hypocritical. You have to understand their point of view. With that said, I still go along with its a load of crap.

PS: Please don't take this a the viewpoint of how all Christians act because its not, don't apply the case of a few extremist to the whole nor majority like many people on both sides are so fond of doing. Every group has their own extremists.

Back into my cloak of invisibleness until I'm called upon again! OOOOOOooooOOOOO *Vanish*

PPS: Sorry for being late on responding to this and any other topics if I've been asked to, was at my cousin's wedding. Been reading a book recently that tries to explain the different conservative point of views and liberal point of views to the other side and why each side believes what the other does. The author basically puts forward that both sides believe what they believe because of family their different family morals. It's a very interesting idea and has helped me to understand some of the liberal stances on certain issues, they still seem idiotic to me, but I understand them better. Having trouble stomaching some it as on some issues you can see which way the author leans. My only comfort while reading it is that liberals would probably feel the same way while reading about some of the other issues. It's called "Moral Politics How Liberals and Conservatives Think" by George Lakoff. Its a bit outdated, but the most basic parts of it still hold true.

Exactly. I just felt it had to be said because the majority of the world's population is retarded. 70% to be exact. Oh, and did you know 90% of polls are made up and percentages like this one are made up?

People are so hypocritical. I would NEVER be hypocritical.

Well, the polls are all made up because they're being conducted in areas which are known to have a certain demographic. For example, a Fox News poll will generally target the suburban and rural areas and avoid cities. -CSM

And most of the other news networks.... well... virtually every news network in the country concentrates them in the cities, and depending on what they're going for, the poor parts of the cities, or grief stricken families, or etc. etc.. etc. ... I think you missed the point of my joke. I made up a % of polls are faked, hahaha. Looney looney looney.

I hate the news. And people. And pretty much everything. The worlds a pretty dismal place isn't it?, no matter how you look at it.

Anyway, quoting Orson Scott Card from Empire (God!, er sorry forgot there's atheist here, SCIENCE! I hated all his other books except Ender's Game); roughly quoting him anyway, 'There are no red states or blue states, its become the rural and suburbs versus the urban cities' or something along those lines. In all seriousness to atheist out there I do apologize for my comment above, but feel like being an ******* right now so I'll keep it.

I'm betasoldier bringing you the news from nowhere, GOOOOOOD DAY!

Edit: Sarcasm: Mankind's greatest invention. Rereading those posts... I realize I've been up for too long, I'm going to bed, getting up and running two or three miles tomorrow, who's with me!

It's a basic human right to blaspheme if we want to. I might be going to hell, but at least I'll have a good time on my way down.

...Not that hell even makes sense by Christian standards. If an omnipotent and all-powerful "god" creates a lifeform, his/her eternal majesty would already know the outcome, would she/he not? To suggest otherwise would make that deity significantly less than omnipotent.

I had this crazy theory that God knows the outcome to every possible choice, including the ones we don't make, which could potentially determine your fate.

Something about Choose Your Own Adventure books too... It made sense when Cap and I talked about it.

Dyl: Hey, I was just reading that "what religion are you" thread, and I stumbled on the discussion of free will, Calvinism, etc.
Dyl: Now, tell me if this sounds too incredibly power nerd...
Dyl: I think our lives are sort of patterned like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, where God has every single page memorized, therefore having every single choice one could make.
Me: well, yeah, that's basically what omniscience is; knowing everything that has happened & everything that can happen, with the only variable being which of the possible things happens
Dyl: That's the one part I can't really put my finger on: does God know if I'm turning to page 81, or page 16?
Dyl: Or is it really relevant? I mean, he knows the outcome of whatever choice you make, so knowing which one you will make would seem pretty redundant.
Me: right
Dyl: Sweet. Solved that quandary.
Me: really, anybody who pays enough attention to you can tell which choice you'll make, but that doesn't mean that person made the choice for you
Dyl: That's true.
Here's another analogy: Plinko. You can see every single possible path through that board and what the outcome of each is. All that remains is finding out which way the puck bounces.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"
