After she died, I learned that my Grandma had been a Jehovah's Witness. I think my confusion was understandable, though, as she pretended not to be home when they came around.

I always accept whatever material they hand out and tell them I hope they have a good day. You can tell they enjoy talking to someone who's responsive to them without being a butt-head, and I'm willing to commit the time to giving them that much.

Of course they do, but it certainly doesn't surprise me that they garner pissed-off reactions. I didn't invite them over. That's not to say that I was rude, I just wouldn't go out of my way to talk to someone like that about anything remotely spiritual.

There's a townhouse just up the alley that's owned by the Latter-Day Saints; about once or twice a year, we get polite young people knocking at the door, asking if we want to join the Mormons. (I'm generally pleasant enough to them, but the last time they came by, I happened to pull out my medallion of St. Michael just on a whim. When they saw it, they all started covering up their eyes and hissing, 'Ahhhhh! Catholicssssss! We hatessssss them!!!!!' Then they turned into bats and flew away. True story.)

Depressing really, their parents would punish them if they celebrated.

No, I'm telling you, do the St. Michael's medallion thing. When I was on campus today, my medallion worked its way out of my pocket just as I was walking past the SDS booth in the Union, and the whole thing burst into flames. And the three commies running it? Turned into pillars of salt. It was amazing.
