Why I am against having an opinion on abortion.

1. Because there are 1000 more important issues that will screw over everyone if we don't fix them. Including overpopulation.

2. Because the laws on abortion are pretty much guaranteed not to change.

3. Because abortion debates are annoying and there will never be a compromise between the two sides.

Then this topic begs the question, why spark a debate about something that is annoying and unimportant? Besides, this issue is important if you believe it is as a lot of people do. I don't think it is THAT important but it certainly needs to be evaluated and discussed...

Abortions are pretty important if you are/get someone pregnant and you don't want a kid. (This goes to both Bomby and L007.)

Abortion debates, however, tend to never go anywhere. At least, not on VGF.

Abortion is a distraction from the REAL issues. Like the economy and the environment and our addiction to cars and gasoline. I promised myself I will NOT debate abortion on the path leading to this election because it should not be an issue. -CSM

Well, I guess being a guy would deter you from being interested in the subject but when I hear stories of trash cans filled with discarded fetus, it kind of makes me wonder what kind of world we live in.

Good enough for me too. I can respect that. My beliefs on the subject aren't necasserily moral or otherwise, I just find the idea repulsive.

Difficult situations must be made in life and making the right choice strengthens a person's integrity, to do something, anything remotely important reflects your character.

What kind of person would so easily, maybe even multiple times, throw away what would have been their child? Even the old rape scape goat makes no difference in terms of deciding the future of someone else. I'd rather not think about how someone could be so self centered, as if no one else matters.

But this is a free country...

Because many of us don't consider the embryo to already be a baby. Just as a seed is not yet a plant, a fertilised egg inside a woman only has a possiblity of becoming a person someday.

So a farmer who sows seeds doesn't expect a harvest, just kinda thinks "maybe these seeds MIGHT produce a harvest..."? If all farmers were so skeptical about something natural coming to fruition, there might be a problem.

An insult and a half is putting it nicely. More like a total lack of respect for other people or at least their opinions.

Well, I dunno. Usually people don't make an entire topic just to be sarcastic. It tends to come in the middle of a huge argument.

IRHP, you said that your beliefs aren't necessarily moral, you just find it repulsive. That's not grounds for a very good belief. Just because you think something is icky doesn't mean it should be banned by federal law.

Also, it seems to me (my side) that the truly selfish people are the ones who refuse to allow mature human beings to decide the fate of their own unwanted offspring. But, as we know, it seems to your side that my side is selfish because we "don't care about the lives of embryos" or something. We've been through this a million times, it never goes anywhere, don't bother.

I am repulsed by the behavior of mature adults toward the future population, the idea of the act is sickening, the results of the action are monstrous and I believe that its a dark time in which the term "unwanted offspring" is thrown around so easily. Repulsive. Icky.
