Would you actually change your beliefs based on a debate here?

Would you ever actually, in a debate here, admit that you're wrong and change your ideas?

I might, depending on how reasoned the other side is and what the issue is. but I don't really adhere to any one solid set of beliefs with conviction (i.e. religion, political party), so I'm different from some others here.

I'm always right. Therefore it is inherent to that fact that one who was to disagree with me would be automatically and indisputably wrong.

Depends on what is being debated. There are a few things I have a pretty firm stance on, but for the most part I'm open to really good rhetoric.

The real question is, why is it that people spend so much time trying to convince others that their way is the best? I don't get why certain things i.e. religion is like a proverbial tug of war all the time. If someone wants to be a Catholic, be a Catholic...and so on and so forth. It's like people want so desparately to be a part of the "right" answer that they try to convert as many people to their cause as they can to affirm their already unprovable beliefs. Here and there I've seen people accuse religious people of trying to impose their beliefs on the reality of others...but don't we all do that? I'm stopping cause I'm starting to sound like Nietzche.

I could probably be talked into changing an occasional political stance with the right arguments.

Highly unlikely. like Tazy; it would take tremendous amounts of pressure/torture to convert me from my beliefs.

If presented with appropriate evidence and logical inference that counters my position, certainly.

Basically this. Emphasis on logic. I only believe in things that are reasonably truthful; I do my best to remain unbiased by 'could be's.

I usually just pick the side of logic or absolutes. Hasn't failed me once.

Pretty much this. I tend to be outstandingly conservative on things that I don't know all that much about, but with proper evidence and experience, I would change my opinion in a heartbeat.
