Rahm Emmanuel served on Board of Directors of Freddie Mac during Scandal

ABC News: Emanuel Was Director Of Freddie Mac During Scandal

Quote:
President-elect Barack Obama's newly appointed chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, served on the board of directors of the federal mortgage firm Freddie Mac at a time when scandal was brewing at the troubled agency and the board failed to spot "red flags," according to government reports reviewed by ABCNews.com.

According to a complaint later filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Freddie Mac, known formally as the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, misreported profits by billions of dollars in order to deceive investors between the years 2000 and 2002.

I knew that choice was a mistake from the get go. Thank God the chief of staff is basically supposed to be a mouthpiece for the president and manage what essentially is a personal life and not be a direct policy maker. -CSM

^I think Rove was senior political adviser, not chief of staff, but I might be wrong. -CSM

Well, I don't think Obama would ever let people do things like Cheney, Ashcroft, Gonzales, Rummy, or Rove. They're too hated in this country and Obama knows it. -CSM

Are you serious?

Politicians like to make promises, but the minute they go into office, it's right back to the same old crap. Seeing as how Obama is in one of the two major parties of this country, I'm not expecting much.

To this day Obama thinks Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's activities were a good idea (help people further down the income ladder get housing... even if it was housing they couldn't afford), albeit perhaps poorly executed. This will not be the last appointment we see with such ties.
