Are we watching the death of OPEC? - MSNMoney Very interesting article. I don't read too many different news sources so I'm not sure how truthful MSN is. To be honest with you, I rather enjoy not having to pay $2.99 per gallon of gas. I can finally use $20 and see my gas gauge go all the way up to full. I was wondering how everyone else feels about the current energy crisis? |

This situation reminds me of those cartoons where a group find some really spooky mansion and they all dare each other to go in but no one will. That is sorta what is happening right now. |

Net exporters of petroleum: pop the campaign corks. Though the major difference in the 1970s and the last few years was that OAPEC actually embargoed the oilflow in response to the US resupplying Israel in the Yom Kippur war. The last two years has been mostly market-forces at work, with speculation investment driving the price through the roof. OPEC hasn't really been as effective since then, especially with several developing countries jumping into the mix. Russia (Not OPEC member) has been screwing up their plans for at least a decade by basically flipping the switch and letting oil flow freely. Saying OPEC is potentially dying because of member dissent is pretty silly at this point. Its like saying the WTO is dead because of the Developing G-20 revolt during the Doha Rounds. |

As far as OPEC dying, I hold them actually being destroyed with a grain of salt. I do think however that this whole issue is some of that karma coming to bite them back on the ass. | |
