In fact, I'd prefer it stay there, and in the pledge of allegiance, and I'd prefer we keep the statue of the Ten Commandments in front of whatever courthouses. These things aren't being forced upon us, and if we get offended every time we hear the word "God" mentioned then we're no better than the kind of people who throw a fit when somebody says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". tl;dr, we've got better things to worry about. I hate how militant atheists pretend the very fabric of democracy is being ripped to shreds by a mass religious conspiracy. By claiming just the word "God" is offensive is like me saying I'm repulsed at the very concept of any faith outside Christianity. These activist groups like to preach a message of tolerance, putting forth a message that says it's unfair to lend credence to a particular faith, but by attempting to remove all aspects of religion from public life and trying to force a strictly secular mindset in public, essentially telling people to leave their faith at home, they're negating their own message of tolerance. As far as Warren goes, it's Obama's party and he can do what he wants. (Hm... I think I have my first editorial for the semester.) |

No, scratch that. How should anyone who believes in free speech feel on the very pricipal of these matters? I wonder what Obama's view on this matter is. |

Just a couple of intolerant people here and there throwing a fit over something insignificant; just the same way as not all Christians are crazy protestors that blow up abortion clinics. There are always some extreme beliefs, but that doesn't mean much to the rest of us. |

And I think more of these types of sane and legal issues arise than insane and murderous bombings happen. I don't find that comparison to work so well, but I get your point anyway. Sure, as soon as we totally abandon and make this one taboo. Last edited by I REALLY HATE POKEMON!; 01-01-2009 at 05:41 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Hm... ![]() Also, I like to think that legal proceedings are infinitely better than murder... ![]() |

And bombings can't be accurately compared to legal proceedings, that's all. One is done legally, one is vigilanteism. So common sense will let you know which is better, so I don't need to even give my opinion on that one. |

I think that it makes sense to remove god from the pledge. I think that it's not like we're putting budda in. Is it spelled Buddha? Bhudda? Not that Buhdda is worse or better. It's just that many dieties in religions are "god." Anyways, I personally don't say the pledge. Why should I swear that I will ally myself with a country? If the world united into the land of Hume, we'd have a good reason to be called Humans. Then I might be so loyal... Pledges and swears and promises are too strict... Why should people take a single word in the pledge so seriously? OMG is godly, too. Pwnd, internet users. |

Epic Ladynerd Join Date: Jul 2000 Location: Forteresse de Valois Gender: Posts: 28,504 Thanks: 1,658 Thanked 1,820 Times in 1,042 Posts | It wasn't a comparision between to two, rather, an example that all could readily agree with: "Indeed, not all Christians want to blow up abortion clinics." Neither do all non-religious folks want to remove every reference to God from random political speeches and such- most of us don't give a damn, either way. Someone who keeps coming back with a stupid lawsuit doesn't mean there's an underlying hatred and repression of "God"; that's the guy's [ridiculous] opinion, not the feelings of the majority of atheists. |

It sounds the exact same as the number "two" and we all know that women are pretty bad at math. Best not to confuse them! Ho ho ho... ![]() I don't give a **** about the whole God deal. So long as it doesn't stop me from holding a job and keeping myself housed, I won't complain about beliefs within the government. |
