Government Grants

On TV and online I read about government grants for all kinds of stuff, but I did a quick Google search and only found obvious frauds, trying to charge me for CDs explaining the process. Do these things really exist just to help people start businesses and such? If there are any you guys know about or that you find, share it here.

A grant is designed to encourage research that could be beneficial. eg: Cancer treatment, alternative energy, or genetics.

Grants of other forms are also given to encourage development in arts, etc.

In other words, no they do not exist only to help start businesses, although starting one may be necessary in some cases.

A lot of the "grants" I've been seeing are really similar to the Bush "tax cuts:" blank checks to do whatever you want, aka give yourselves bonuses and not create jobs. While it's important for the government to provide funds for research, they ought to keep an eye on those dollars because they can be, and have been, wasted. -CSM

Lmao, trust me, I ain't planning on popping one up over night, Or anytime soon... I'm just doing some light research on the subject. The economy is obviously in no shape for a no-nothing to start a profitable business.

From what I've read, you need good credit (*coughs*) anyway. So I might just be wasting my time. =|

Grants, decent loans, etc. Good starting point if you have the time to dissect the links and pages. They usually have local offices, which can be worth stopping by for info.
