Vermont passes gay marriage via the legislature

I must say, this is a huge victory for common sense. I wonder what the (now diminished) minority will call these lawmakers? "Activist legisltors?" LOL.

(I say diminished because there are some who are just opposed to gay marriage becoming legal through the courts and not the legislture). -CSM

What's most significant is that it was legalized by the legislature, as opposed to being overturned in the courts.

And, of course, the distinction between civil unions and marriage - that's the point.

DE just blocked a constitutional ban and outlawed discrimination based on sexual orientation, identity, and a couple other related things. Hopefully it's legalized sometime soon.

And now there's a group that's trying to rally the northeast to be anti-gay by airing fraudulent commercials saying that if gay marriage is legalized things that already happen in just about every state will happen. Among those things is a doctor will lose the right to refuse to treat a lesbian because she's a lesbian (of course this right is nonexistant because the doctor takes a medical oath to treat ANYONE who needs treatment, and this has to do with public discrimination law rather than marriage). Plus the people in the commercial are actors (Human Rights Campaign got ahold of the audition tapes and put them on YouTube). -CSM

Wait, they approve of doctors being able to refuse treatment to lesbians(even though it isn't true)? I didn't know medical care was only for straight people.

Anyone can call anything whatever they want. The significance of this isn't that people aren't going to call it civil unions anymore, it's that Vermont recognizes it as marriage.

Damn right I wanna pay federal income taxes. Thank god the government recognizes that. I wouldn't want that to get in the way of my marriage.

marriages give tax breaks, doesn't segregate gay people with a thing different then what everyone else calls it, amerikkka has religous freedom, etc
