Hopefully Mark Sanford will resign as well, and we'll only have two of the fearsome four left in governorships (Bobby Jindal and Rick Perry). -CSM |

This ruins her shot at ever running for President, though. "And Sarah, may I ask why you left your state part-way into your governership?" "Because I'm a maverick!" In that entire speech she just spouted selling point after selling point: New politics, change, apparently basketball. |

I can see why she's doing this - frees her up to tour to meet with people and raise money, get in precious face time, rally up voters and such. However, I can't help but feel this is a monumentally stupid idea. It would have been more responsible to wait until the end of her term, not run for reelection, and then start touring. Choosing to resign now just looks bad - it looks like she cannot handle the mounting ethical charges (that may or may not be real) against her, and it leaves the door wide open for her critics to attack her by that if she's going to quit early on Alasking, she wouldn't be able to handle the Presidency - the very thing she's trying to position herself in this move. It's just a stupid move. But, then again, I already knew she was an idiot, so no real shock for me. ![]() |

She's cutting before the bottom falls out to save face. I think the timing has more to do with the following critical piece that basically explains how this moron ruined McCain's candidacy and why she's totally unelectable. Todd S. Purdum on Sarah Palin | vanityfair.com Instead of doing what she was supposed to do, which was manage Alaska at a status-quo pace while brushing up on foreign affairs and national politics in private, this nitwit has been going crazy. Leaving the governorship might work if it were her second term, because it would free her to go into the lower 48 (read: civilization), and campaign. However, she bolted before the halfway point of her first term, making her a failed governor. That's an insta-fail in her own party when put against people that finished out their term. Quote:
Palin was tained because she singlehandedly ruined McCain's campaign. She also doesn't appeal to national defense Republicans or Wallstreet Republicans at all, and scares anyone remotely moderate. She would sweep the trailer parks though. Perry, like Palin, is linked to secession groups which makes him horrifically vulnerable outside of the south. Then there's the question of his drive, and how effective he's going to be now that a Texan President isn't funneling money and projects to Texas. Sanford just deepsixed his chances with his embarrassing affair. He's done. Jindal is a total joke. Ineffective in Congress and quit every job before that to move up. Only faced one well funded seasoned opponent in a public election and lost. Debate dodger. Look at his response to the State of the Union. Dude would get annihilated by Obama (or Biden in a VP debate). The real GOP governor you want to look at is Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota. Here's why: no skeletons as of yet, relatively young (48), and he's from a state that isn't solid red. That's the key: he has to deal with other viewpoints. Jindal doesn't care about the two dozen leftists in Louisiana, Perry doesn't care about Austin, and Sanford and Palin laugh at the three people in the Democratic party in their state. Pawlenty, unlike the others listed, accepted outright all of the stimulus package and didn't play this idiotic game like the others did. Because he has to compromise and deal with other viewpoints, Pawlenty is in a better position to win a national election. It basically comes down to if the GOP can seize control from the kooks and novices. If they want to win, they look towards Romney and Pawlenty because they can win in blue states. If they want to lose, they can throw Caribou Barbie and bumbling southerners and secessionists out there to get annihilated. Last edited by Lurch1982; 07-04-2009 at 12:11 AM. She might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but if ya can't give her credit for anything else, you must admit she looks damn good in a skirt. I can't think of any other vice presidential candidate that you can say that about. ![]() |
