Tom Ridge: I Was Pressured To Raise Terror Alert To Help Bush Win On the eve of the election...more Republican fear-mongering revealed. So could it be argued that Bush didn't legitimately win either election? Do you think that this would have influenced voting that much? Also, I enjoyed Tom Ridge's "MAH BOI" picture in the article. |

But looking back on that situation in Florida, some of the counties in Florida did NOT recount their votes as was required by Florida law at the time (machine recount)--they simply retabulated the memory cards, or reported the same numbers. Knowing that (and the fact that Bush's lead began to shrink after the state was called for him--due to an error in one of the Florida counties), I find it difficult to believe that the count was really accurate at all. You have to keep in mind also that while Gore was trying to count the votes, Bush wanted to create his "transition" team and claim victory. The whole situation itself was very fishy. Call me a fool or whatever you'd like, that's your opinion--and I'm entitled to mine as well. But this thread isn't about the 2000 election, so let's keep it on topic. Fear-mongering was their strong suit, and appears to be the strong suit of the Republican party to this day. BTW, I'll be back soon. I have a decision to make with the rest of my Death Panel on whether or not I should pull some old Grandma's plug. |

Take whatever opinion you like on the issue. Far from thinking you a fool, I'm delighted to know you've analysed the events in question---all too many people consider the election illegitimate not because it was so very close, but because they see conspiracies everywhere. |

Personally, I think Bush's people would've been willing to do anything short of another Watergate scandal to get what they want. |
