Gender: Posts: 6,982 Thanks: 179 Thanked 351 Times in 271 Posts | OH NO YOU DI'IN'T So my father, as I may or may not have mentioned before, is heavily involved in the Classified Employees Union in my school district, and was even recently elected vice president of it. Just today I learned that our neighbor, San Bernadino City, recently was the sight of a political squabble between the leaders of their labor union, and the Superintendent of the Schools there... Apparently the union there often disagreed with the school board on issues involving disciplinary action against employees, which came to a head last week resulting in the Superintendent going to a Superior Court Judge and having him issue a restraining order against both the local union and the state-wide union, effectively barring them from doing any work on behalf of the union members there. This is sending shivvers through the whole state, if the labor union of one city can be voided by the stroke of a pen, that puts all the other unions in a severely diminished position for contract negotiations. In short: The labor union of San Bernadino City was all but voided. This is some seriously undemocratic bullsh*t. __________________ |

They had a significant place in the early 20th century when corporations and big business use to hire strikebreakers to intimadate dissident workers. But times have changed. Unions are mostly useless entities that suck their own members dry. To Hell with them. |

You'd be amazed with the crap business owners *COUGH*Walmart especially*COUGH* try to get away with. But this isn't about business, really, it's more specifically about the unions that work for school district employees, where in some ridiculous cases the district is cutting work hours to less than full hour. Without a union this kind of complete disregard for employee welfare would go largely unopposed. __________________ |
