Now gay marriage fails in MY state.

They just banned gay marriage in NJ. I'm good friends with one of the folks who voted "no," as well as a gay couple.

N.J. Senate rejects bill legalizing gay marriage | New Jersey Real-Time News - - NJ.com

Everyone who voted down this bill has to prove to me that they are a staunch opponent of what's happening in Uganda right now:

Americans’ Role Seen in Uganda Anti-Gay Push - NYTimes.com

Quote:
Human rights advocates in Uganda say the visit by the three Americans helped set in motion what could be a very dangerous cycle. Gay Ugandans already describe a world of beatings, blackmail, death threats like “Die Sodomite!” scrawled on their homes, constant harassment and even so-called correctional rape.

“Now we really have to go undercover,” said Stosh Mugisha, a gay rights activist who said she was pinned down in a guava orchard and raped by a farmhand who wanted to cure her of her attraction to girls. She said that she was impregnated and infected with H.I.V., but that her grandmother’s reaction was simply, “ ‘You are too stubborn.’ ”
Many of those who oppose gay marriage are being eerily silent on this...sometimes I wonder is it that they just want to "defend the definition of marriage" or is it something more than that? -CSM

I could give you another good example of eerie silence coming from a particular group when it comes to a particular brand of atrocity, but if I did, then everyone here would jump down my throat. So I'm just going to leave it at that, since I'm sure you can work out who I'm talking about for yourself.

"Everyone who voted down this bill has to prove to me that they are a staunch opponent of what's happening in Uganda right now:" Because you can't oppose gay marriage MUST support beating/blackmailing/raping/killing gay people.

Nice logic there CSM

So apparently CA is gonna stream the upcoming trial against Prop 8 (banning gay marriage here) on youtube.

That'll be interesting.

But dear god am I ever crossing my fingers. It's just not right to take away people's rights like that.

I'm sorry to hear that crap happened in your state as well. :{/

I'm not saying it is. I'm saying that it's a step in that direction. And a lot of prominent people (Rick Warren, Mark Sanford, Jim DeMint, James Inhofe, Tom Coburn just to name a few) are involved with an organization called "The Family" which does a lot of ministering in Uganda, including anti-gay ministering and abstinence-only ministering. And the Roman Catholic Church has been silent. -CSM

Fair enough, I don't know why but the part of your post that I quoted just bugged me. as for the Roman Catholic Church, I recall the only recently (as in the last 10 to 15 years) making amends for something they did/condoned back in the 1200's so I think it could take a while before they get to this.

Yeah, I'm from Jersey too and I saw this in the paper. I was pretty upset about it as I have a few gay friends, and I really just hate the idea of not letting people have their rights. I will say though, on the cover of the newspaper it was on, they did have this photo to accompany it:

Lol, that lady sure was happy about it. I'm surprised she didn't get the tar beaten out of her with all those supporters around her. Apparently when word was given that they voted against the bill, she shouted "Hallelujah".

that trial's gonna be so weird, with Bush's lawyer from Bush v. Gore supporting the two gay couples.

If I were gay and there I would've at least asked her if she thinks I should have the same First Amendment rights she should. -CSM

People have the right to do what they want, they have the right to think what they want although in this case there are people that don't wan't people to like anybody they want.

First thing i want to say is that, laws is for Idiots, we have the forbidden to enter high voltage sighns that tells us that it's stupid to go in there you can become Kilowatt Fried **** or KFC for short.

They say to us that we should not go faster than the speedsighns its dangerus and so on.

What i can't follow here is what is the stupidity in liking someone, i can understand that we might not get to many babies from it (Vital part in the human lifecycle) but then again i don't think we are in grave danger of being decimated because of that and the times when you feel like doing more than have silly Lightsabrebattles in the bed.

This law is unecesary that's my oppinion!

You know, religions get a bad rap because a lot of them are full of crazies. But people are just all around crazy most of the time, anyway. Humans depress me.

I don't really see why marriage is required for a couple to be happy. Is it mostly because they want all the same benefits as straight couples who get married, or what?

its not required or even a state that exists in a concrete form except for a few legal tax things, but banning it for gay couples is a clear message that says "no, your not aloud to have to this ceremony that celebrates love because we think your love is filthy/wrong/whatever". even if marriage is something with no real concrete basis its still one less right for gay people.

not to mention that once you take one right away you can take then next right away more easily.

Yeah, if anyone were pushing for true equality, we would abolish the whole tax benefits situation with marriage. People save money just by being together most of the time, no reason to tax singles more for the **** of it.

One of the most important reasons for gay marriage, though, are things like rights in case of emergency. If something were to happen to me, and I had a gay partner, that partner would not be able to see me while I was in critical condition. As a married spouse, or family member, you have that benefit.

1138.

That's the number of rights denied to gay couples.

One thousand, one hundred and thirty eight.
