The monarchy of Great Britain

To all you brits out there. What's your opinion on the monarchy? Do you think the system works and should be kept in place? Do you think it's outdated and should be replaced with a republican system? Do you not care at all? I'm just curious as to what you all think about this.

All you Commonwealth members can get in on this too.

The French had the right idea with what to do with a monarchy.

Russians too.

Don't get me started on how useless the monarchy is. To put it short they are tax paid figureheads who do jack **** for Britian. I mean christ, if i recall correctly, they don't even have much power anymore.

Monarchy doesn't work so hot once the kingdom gets that large. Small scale, it would be alright. As it stands, it's not like the royals can do much anymore; they don't have a military force to enable any rulings that the people don't approve of. Leaving the running of the country to the PM and cabinet is about as safely as they can maintain their position.

What exactly can the monarch do? It seems to be very little.

I sorta feel that way about every governmental system. Every single one of them has the potential to work perfectly on the small-scale. But every single one of them begins breaking down as the distances involved become larger & less manageable.

Yeah, I never saw why a bunch of inbred, self-entitled people had any reason to rule everyone else.

Exterminating/exiling 'em all seems to have been the best idea.

Or US style, depriving them of their power.

'Course, these days, all they do is buy fancy clothes, so there isn't as much to worry about. Of the modern ones, I'd just suggest removing their ability to waste government money on themselves.

Actually, they probably became inbred and self-entitled because they ruled over everyone else.

From what I was told, the monarchs make their money by renting out their house to people for dinners and fundraisers. -CSM

Frankly, you guys are acting like it's still a mode of government. The British royals are more of a social leadership if anything. Think like if celebrities actually had dignity.

^I'm not sure my imagination is that good.

Can't see getting worked up over the royals. Their power is strictly ceremonial, and, if they have ridiculous undeserved wealth, hey---lots of people do.

Granted, I don't live in the UK or any of the commonwealths, so maybe I'm just ignorant.
