A story by David Jaffe

Source: EGM Spring 2010
Quote:
I told my daughter the other day that she's spending a lot of time combing her hair. She's six-years-old, and I'm like "Dude, your hair is beautiful, you're a beautiful little girl, let's go to school." [She says,] "But sometimes people make fun of you if your hair looks bad." So I pulled her over and I said, if somebody ever says that to you, tell them to go f**k themselves. Her eyes got really big, and she said, they'll put me in time out. I said I don't care, just tell them to call your dad. I'd rather you get a time out and shake these little f**king six-year-olds to their core with a really well-placed "go f**k yourself" than allow them to treat you or your friends in any way that doesn't show you the respect you deserve.
My own dad had this philosophy towards the griefers in my class when I was little, & I'm developing it as well. A petty punishment is worth permanently shutting up a bunch of brats who would otherwise never stop their douchebaggery.

Anyone else wanna weigh in here?

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^ It's less about what you're saying, and more to do with obtaining something that gives you confidence in what you're expressing. Kids know "f***" is an important word. Being given the permission to use it in a certain situation, or to be verbally agressive in your own defence is a push towards confidently deflecting childish criticism. So in essence, yeah, saying "go **** yourself" would work in some instances, because you would be projecting such confidence in yourself and in whatever is being mocked that you remove the power from the person trying to give you a hard time. *shrug*

ps. that means I approve, also. :3

Two things:

1) Is this like in prison where once you get in, you have to find the biggest, meanest guy and punch his lights out? You know, so that they don't mess with you?

2) I remember a stand-up comedian who was rollerblading and said some boys were consistently harassing her (in that sort of teasing fashion). Her parents told her the next time that happens, to immediately start chasing them, scratching their faces and yelling things like "I'LL EAT YOUR EYEBALLS!".

Yeah, as an adult my perspective has changed. I let people bug me and guilt me, even when I didn't want to, and I now would be completely immune to that sort of criticism. I'm proud of myself now that I don't even think I'd go to a reunion just to make a point to those people like society seems to suggest, because it means so little to me now. How petty children can be.

My friend had a life changing experience that he had when he was still in elementary school. His father was a wife beating drunken piece of **** and would pull him out of school for no reason. Well one day a teacher grew suspicious of this and called the police. Now my friend had gotten his ass kicked too not just the mother. The police officer who responded to the teacher's call went over to my friend's house. The father came outside and told the 2 officers to get the **** off his lawn. The cops weren't stupid, they knew the guy was beating his wife and kids. They went up to his face and said "we know what your doing but we can't arrest cause we don't have a warrant. But if you ever step foot off this property and we catch you. Your ass is grass." This had an permanent lasting impression on friend who is now one of the strongest police officers I know of.

I'm not trying to start or end an arugment. Just thought I would share a story. Good night everyone.

I like that story quite a bit, Flava. The right tell-off can do amazing things.

I'd probably make sure to warn my kid not to be using it all for any old thing, but I like that.
