Anne Rice keeps her faith, ditches religion

Quote:
The author Anne Rice, best known for her vampire novels, made waves last week when she declared on her Facebook page that she had "quit being a Christian." Twelve years after her return to Catholicism, Rice said she still believed in God, but that, "In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life."
Anne Rice leaves Christianity after 'a kind of confusion, a toxic anger' | Hero Complex | Los Angeles Times

There's more on the subject from an interview with her in the link. I think a lot of people, myself included, know exactly where she's coming from with this, and I really appreciate the message it sends. Leonard Pitts of the Miami Herald had a nice column about it.

I kept wanting to use "preaching to the choir" in talking about this, but the expression seems confusing in this context.

I was surprised to hear she's still alive, too.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

I've never actually read one of her books, though I did watch Interview with the Vampire.

Yeah, that movie wasn't bad. My mom keeps trying to get me to read the book, but.... meh.

Her most recent books have been pure religious material.
