Talk show host Laura Schlessinger says the N-word 11 times on air

Caller confused, hurt by Dr. Laura's words – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs

The First Amendment allows you to say the n-word whenever you want. It's your right.

The First Amendment allows America to call you out for being the dumb**** you are. It's their right.

This Yahoo article said pretty much everything that needed to be said about the stupidity of her understanding of the 1st amendment.

Having read the transcript, what's offensive about Dr. Laura is that the context of her dialog definitely implies bitterness toward black people over a perceived double-standard, and then she kept using "the n-word" simply to taunt the woman. I do think that in the context of discussing the word word itself it's usually acceptable to just say the word, since whether you're saying "the n-word" or actually saying ****** you're implying the same thing. However, there's a lot of immature white people who totally get off on any situation where the context implies that they're allowed to use it, and they use it as much as possible because there's been some sort of "prestige" attached to getting away with saying it. These people are what I like to refer to as morons. She is one of them.

A bit off track here: honestly, I tend to really disdain the usage any sort of self-censoring contraction like "f-word" or "d-word" or "s-word," etc. You and I both know what you're talking about, and feeling the need to skirt around the usage of the word is just ridiculous. The implication of the word is no different from the usage of the actual word.

But back on topic, this has **** all to do with the first amendment. What's at stake is whether or not what she said was offensive, not whether or not she had a legal right to say it.

She should have known better. Everyone knows white people can't say that. And taunting your callers is not a good idea unless it gets the ratings.

You have a right to say what you want, but that doesn't mean a corporation has to broadcast it to everyone. You've got to be someone who says things they want to broadcast to everyone.

The FCC isn't restricting your right to say what you want, for instance. They're just restricting your right to broadcast what you've said, which hasn't been guaranteed by anyone.
