Apparently this is a big issue to some people, though I've never given it much thought myself, so I wanted to hear some of your opinions. The United States doesn't have an official language, though English has served as the de facto one. However, there are a lot of Spanish speakers in this country, and because of that a lot of services (like signs or phone services and such) are given in both English and Spanish, and there's a demand in many jobs for people who can speak both languages. A lot of folks don't like the idea of a dual language system in the U.S. though, which has been traditionally English-speaking, and some folks even want to make English the country's official language. What're your thoughts, forum goers? |

I'm completely against the idea. |

If another area has a huge population of spanish-speakers, then maybe speaking spanish could help you. I dunno, I think what we have now works. People adapt to their surroundings, generally. |

Say it with me now: Kuh-Lur. Not that anyone either side of the lake actually pays attention to the relevance of the origins of words. Jackasses think they can re-interpret centuries-old documents without having a clue what context the words held. I think you'd be an idiot not to be at least somewhat concerned with the majority language somewhere if you moved there and didn't speak it. I can't say as I sympathize with either side, though. They're both in the wrong. | |

It's a language based on stammering out random syllables, with your meaning discerned from rhythm, tone, gesture, expression, pattern recognition, logical inference, & possibly low-level telepathy. And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!" |
