At the risk of causing a flame war, I'd like to state that this is the reason we can't have a nice society.

What we're basically coming down to if this law gets passed.

Ok then.

I want a law passed that makes it legal to kill whoever I want for the reasons I want to.
It's only fair.

Except this isn't due to the people of SD. This is due to the right-wing assuming near-full control of power and going to any length to stop abortions, despite the last two ****ing bills being shot down in elections. So, in short, yeah, I do see why we're seen as "a bunch of religious whackos", mostly because of statements like this.

Do note that this is a bill meant to cover justifiable homicide. It's possible this was meant to cover pregnant women, but just happened to be... worded awkwardly.

On purpose.

I was gonna post this. Anyone who would ever consider themselves "pro-life" should oppose this bill.

Also, look at New bill will let doctors refuse to save the lives of pregnant women — Feministe: further proof that some so-called "pro-lifers" are really interested in forcing women to submit to men. -CSM

The geneve convention decided that a human life if not to be thrown away what i remember, allso to not use landmines.

But if i remember correctly if a goverment decides something that allows something like that it's a crime against humanity

This law actually covers justifiable homicides, it's just the clause "in the defense of an unborn child's life" that people are running away with. Then again, maybe that one clause is the whole reason this bill exists, and it is so people can kill abortion doctors.

And the Geneva Convention applies to warfare between countries, but it is not a branch of the government.

It's debatable. The Republicans pretty much wiped the floor in the last election (IIRC one of them doesn't even have a high school education or something), if you want to look at it that way.

I *think* what CSM is getting at is laws like these, that essentially strip women of protections, contribute to a sexist and misogynistic society, where women are less valued.

And I mean...this bill sort of fits that. It's better to let a woman (and fetus) die than submit to an abortion? Really? It inherently implies that the woman's life is of less value than that of the fetus...even though both will die.

EDIT: because I meant to mention it, but pressed post too soon...it *is* possible for women to submit to or even contribute to a sexist society.

I'm pro-life, but if it's to save the life of the mother, I would support an abortion to an extent. If the fetus/baby isn't developed enough to be saved then ok, do it, but I would still say do whatever you can to try and save both FIRST.

I could swear it says something about the value of a human life and what you may and may not do to a human... i will have too look it up then.

And i think that this should be brought to a bigger light, anything that alows people to shoot/maim/kill other people that tries to help society can't be a good law.

This law have the potential to make little girls cry and any law that make little girls cry (or boys) can't be a good law!

Loosing a Mother i consider a little bit more traumatic than loosing the sibling you haven't met yet.

And then don't get me started on the economical aspect it just sound very misanthropic.

So anybody that even though this is a good law do not deserve the position their in, idiots like this shall not be in a position where they can do stuff like this an Angry mob is needed for this people to understand what a royal pain in the collective behind they are.
